Any one have any problems lately after returning?

I believe I only gave my CC num to CSR front desk for room charges. I ended up using my rewards card for everything.

Can't say for sure that the number was stolen in Disney, but I haven't used it since I've been back and the charges appeared 3 days after I came back.

Declined charge for 1.00 in Orlando...probabaly a test run...then charges for $1500+ in California...also declined.

Who ever stole the number never saw the card itself...they only have the number, not the exp date or 3 digit security code.

wow, that's scary stuff, great that it was declined. Have you cancelled the # and got a new one?

I saw a thread about this a while back where someone had this happen too - just keep watching your transactions - or cancel the card and get a new one

It is scary having your credit card number stolen (twice it has happened). You need to report the activity to the police and have a police report completed.

The bank ended up calling me...so none the charges went thru. After we spoke, they closed the account and will be overnighting me new cards.

This is the 2nd time it's happened to me, also.

I doubt the police care. Has anyone ever got to the bottom of any CC fraud?

1) If you use the rewards card and CC, you could easily see a $1.00 charge.
2) Front Desk does this sometimes to charge each card "something". *
3) This way, both card numbers remain on-file for future charges.
4) Without it, the last card number remains and the previous disappears.
5) As for the $1,000, you got me, there.
6) The Disney computers ONLY show last four digits and expiration date.
7) The rest of the card number IS NEVER visible.
8) In fact, no Disney receipt has the full CC number on it.

* This is done a lot, because MASY people either want to split credit cards, use more than one credit card for charges, or use their rewards card. Without doing this $1.00 charge, the credit card number disappears. If you left the resort with a balance owing, they could not charge your credit card. The only card on-file is the rewards card, and that balance probably would not be enough to cover the bill. They would then have to pursue you at home for the remaining balance.

I'm confused by your post. CSR doesn't know anything about my rewards card. I simply gave them my reg CC num incase I charged anything back to the room - which I didn't. I then used my rewards card for ALL purchases during my vacation. Upon express checkout, I had no charges.

The 1.00 charge was attemped on my reg CC on Oct 31st. I checked out on Oct 28th.

This is a clear cut case of fraud. As far as getting to the bottom of it, that's probably impossible.

I thought I remember reading about other cases after a trip to Disney.

Scary, happened to me on my last trip to Fl.

Charges made in other cities in Fl and some in CA.

herc.

Gas charges come up as a $1 pending charge on my credit card for a couple of days-- it is a pre-approval of some sort, then when the transaction is complete--2-3 days later, the correct amount shows up. (It is explained on my CC website like this)

Sorry this happened to you. No answers that you haven't done already--just explaining a thought on the $1 charge and pending charges. Maybe not a test, but a similar thing.

I do remember reading about this in another post. When they were trying to catch someone in CA with my stolen number they ran the 1.00 through to actually catch the person. And she was caught a detective from the CC company called to let me know. I do carry fraud protection on my card so maybe that is why they called me to let me know what had happened. Good luck it is scary when this happens.

Sorry this happened to you! The police DO care though - this happened to my husband back in 2002. He left a gas station with his wallet on top of his truck, drove home - realized it and went back. It was gone. He came home and told me there were a group of teenagers there and he bet any $ they took it.

First thing I did was call our bank re: the debit card. At this point, only 1/2 hour had passed from the time he had left the station. Already 2 charges at the local mall were on it. The bank contacted the police while I called on our Credit card and DH's boss called on his work credit card. The work credit card had just been denied at another mall store - we notified the police who caught the guy (one of those teenagers) coming out of the store, or nearby. It helped that DH was able to describe the group of teenagers.

We, and DH's boss, had to file police reports. Turns out, there was a warrant out for his arrest, also. Luckily, DH got his wallet back, so he didn't have to get a new license (he has a commercial one for work), etc. The bank and CC companies gave us no problems at all and were very helpful. The guy pled guilty and served jail time.

To sum up, the police do care! Your situation would probably be much more difficult with different states and that time has passed, no physical description, etc. but it's worth a shot. Might help prevent this from happening to someone else!

I had this happen 3 years ago... went to WDW in Feb, put it all on my Disney Visa. All went fine. I'm one of those people that checks my bank and card activity on-line pretty routinely, and one morning in August that year, I saw a charge for over $3500+ for Walt Disney World Resort!

I called WDW and asked them about it, laughing that I WISHED I had booked a trip, but I hadn't, and the woman on the other end suddenly got very serious and said, "You haven't just been at Walt Disney World?" I told her no, and she asked me again, and I again told her no, and she told me I needed to contact my bank.

Ok, called the bank, very friendly woman until she asked me if I'd recently been in Florida and I told her "no" -- she checked a few more things, asked me about 100 questions, along the lines of my 2nd cousin's maiden name, etc., and then said, "One moment, I'm connecting you to security." Hmmm...

So I talked to a very serious man who asked all the same questions to verify my identity, etc., and then said he was erasing the charge, closing my account, and cancelling the card due to fraud.

All kind of scary, but my biggest concern next was "Will my Disney Reward Points transfer?" I know it's silly to worry about that... I must be a Disney addict for sure....

Anyway, they did transfer, the charge was gone, and all is well! But it's a hassle and pretty scary.

1) Sorry for the error.
2) The way I read your post, it sounded like you also paid at the Front Desk.
3) They would have done this to retain the CC number over the reward number.
4) If you didn't use the rewards card at Front Desk, the $1 charge is wrong.

I know people don't want to hear this but I bet some CMs are contacted by organised crime to steal CC numbers.I have heard to many stories for them to just be doing it on there own.

There was a local place around here growing up that offered teenagers product for bringing in CC numbers.

I've had my credit card number stolen once and it's very scary, not in Disney but at home. I monitor my charges all the time online and saw a charge at a computer store and I knew I didn't go and buy anything. How the person was able to purchase an entire computer system with no card amazes me. I immediately called the credit card company and put the amount in dispute and they took care of it. Turned out that not only did they make the computer purchase but also made a couple of stops at a gas station.

I too was told to destroy my cards and new ones would be sent out.

My DH travels to Paris on business several times a year and told me that when he was in a restaurant the waiters actually have a wireless device and process your credit card right at your table so you can see everything. Maybe we should be doing that here......

That's a good idea. I saw on a news program once that restaurants are the source of many stolen cards because they take it out of sight. I had my CC number stolen last year and didn't know until my bank called and asked if I was buying $1000's of dollars of merchandise in Huntington Beach CA (and I'm in TN!). It was quickly fixed and new cards sent to me, but what a pain!

Yes, once it happens to you it's very scary. I actually had an argument with the store because I asked how someone was able to purchase all that equipment with just my number. I mean didn't they have to sign for it or didn't the card need to be swiped? I wasn't even in that store so the number wasn't stolen from there so I'm assuming it was in a restaurant since that is the only type of place where your card goes out of your sight. I was just happy that the credit card company took care of everything.

I live in NJ and there was an article in the paper last week about a girl who was arrested for doing just that. She had some sort of device that you swipe the card through it and all the info is taken off the magnetic field on the card and she was giving this device back to someone who took the information off and made fake credit cards.

Yup...... had my card number stolen at the Front desk at POFQ, from an employee who was caught. He stole info from 6 people and charged over 10 grand. It took a year but he finnally plead guilty. Received NO jail time. Had to pay fines and do 500 hours per charge? Community service.
By the way the amount on my card was 3,000. This was done at midnight the night before I checked out via express check-out.

call orange county sherriffs dept resorts division. There is a particular detective asigned to this very problem, I assurre you they take this very seriously.

I have the detectives name if you need it Pm me.

The thieves clone your card by running it thru a device that captures the info on the mag stripe. Then they make fake cards with cc stock and sell these cards.
In most cases the merchant will catch it is a fake card, that is why they usually go the phone or internet order way.
I work for a bank and many times get calls from merchants doing name and address checks on phone orders. The really bad thing here is when the info doesn't match, I tell them it is a fraudulant charge and try to get them to security, they hang up. They don't want to lose a sale. I try to call the owner of the card and alert them if i'm able to do it.
They know there is 0 responsiblity for fraud and the banks take the hit. Meantime they get thier sale.

I'd like to think it was a horrible co-incidence but, I had it happen twice in 10 months on the same card that I only use for WDW trip.

We always have a zero balance on the card before trip, helps us to keep track of our expenditures...

1st time last Dec. we found out after 6 days @ WDW when we were on a DCL cruise & I tried to buy coffee in Nassau...panic attack time!!!! Was able to get ahold of CC & they offered to have a card waiting in next port (Castaway Cay???:rotfl2: ) glad we had a back-up with us, we'd still be washing dishes on the Wonder. A $1.00 charge was put thru, then when we were out @ sea an attempt was made for jewelry purchase in Spain (several thousand $s declined).

2nd time few weeks ago BEFORE last trip but, after I used the card to book a ressie for next year thru WDTC. This time someone bought an expensive snowboard & prepaid AOL for a year (you'd think they could trace this joker easily?).

I've got to start using my Discover card w/the different numbers you can link for online purchases...just confused as to how it works...guess I'll have to read the info they sent lol.

Disturbing to think what a lurch we'd be in if it were the only card we had brought with us on vacation. Not too crazy about the fact that I've got to monitor my credit for the next few months either & pull credit reports again, etc.
