Credit card at checkin?

Has anyone ever put cash, travelers checks or a personal check at check in, down toward their room charges rather than spending as you go with cash? I do not want to use a credit card at all, so can I start with cash? Or, would I have to put a credit card down and then convert it to cash/check later? I am worried about the charges going thru prior to my giving them cash, so I would like to start with giving them all my travelers checks (or even better a personal check) at checkin, and keep up with our balance. Is that possible? We are staying at BCV and when I called the BC directly they said credit card or no room charge, there is no way to use cash (other than paying before charges make it on to credit card)

yes you can give them cash, traveler's check to be used first, how about a debit card?

if you don't have a debit card - then a credit card is your only choice.

I like this more because I like the express check out....

Express check out is not important to us. I do have a debit card, but I had read of others having problems with debit cards on another board (can't remember what the issue was though!)
