Okay - my DH2B and I are struggling with a good idea for a card box at the wedding..... the theme is fishing with a mix of hunting. The gift table is fishing themed, so I'm leaning that way for the card box. The ideas we've come up with (and the difficulties we're running into are below).

A landing net (but we don't know how to secure the top so the cards aren't easily accessible).

A creel (kind of the same - a creel doesn't have a slit big enough to slide the cards in, and therefore it would be open).

A decorative fishing net folded and so the cards would drop in from the top and lay in the bottom (DH2B wasn't keen on this idea)

A minnow bucket (again DH2B was a hard sell on this one)

A five gallon bucket with a cover with a slit (I was the one not keen on this - seems kind of boring)

A soft-sided tackle box (this is our favorite so far, but we haven't come up with a good way to secure the zipper in place so it only opens far enough to slide the card in.

Now - it may seem like we're a little protective of our cards, and maybe so. We don't really have anyone coming that we don't know or trust, but you just don't want to be careless - or leave a temptation open like that.

Any other ideas??

What about a wooden box (you can find a variety of sizes and styles at a craft store) stained with wood stain and lightly sanded to look kinda old... then tack your net kinda draped around the outside of it. You could control the size of the slit in the top, and then attach whatever you wanted (lures and bobbers? maybe a plastic fish or two?) to the net to decorate it.

ETA: You could get a box with a lid and nail the lid shut to keep sticky fingers out of it!

The one I made was a frilly mailbox but perhaps you could get a white one and paint your name on the side and decorate it in a fishing/hunting theme and then after the wedding you have a new mailbox for your home.

The first thing I thought of was the fishing creel. I would just modify one so it would work. They are made out of wicker or wood aren't they? Just MAKE the hole big enough for the cards. Of course you won't be able to use it for fish any more, but who cares?
