Creative idea for Mermaid makeover at Pirates League?

My 10 yr old DD will be doing the mermaid package, but, doesn't want to wear an ariel costume or the mermaid shirt/tutu you can buy at PL. Has anyone bought or made a mermaid inspired outfit to wear? My DD doesn't like dresses or costumes- I don't know what to get her for that day. I feel like blue makeup isn't really going to make her feel like a mermaid! Any advice or pictures would be appreciated.

Check Burlington's, Sears or JCP for aqua dresses, and see if she likes any of them. My daughter isn't into dresses much either, but she fell in love with this one for her mermaid makeover...

I bought my girls some very cute dresses at Costco last week- cotton (thick t shirt) material on top with a tiered somewhat lace-covered bottom. I got the light aqua colored ones. I bought them for summer but plan on having my girls wear them for the mermaid makeover. They fit really cute and the tiered skirt makes it fun.

I understand! My DS5 is going to the Pirate's League the day of a MNSSHP, and he wants me to be a mermaid.

The adult female mermaid costumes I've found are a bit...restrictive! So I'm imagining...what would Serena (from Stranger Tides) wear if she was dressed on land? Pirate-y clothes? Period clothes?

I would love to see more posts too, and, possible pictures to see what others have done at Pirate's League for mermaids. Pinterest I bet is a good idea...and I could always make something Mommy sized.

Last year we bought a TuTu and t-shirt on Etsy. I think it was around $35-40 total and was very cute and comfortable.
