creationism v evolution in the classroom

It depends on the course. In my biology class, evolution was obviously taught. In another class creationism may be taught. Either is okay with me as long as they are both taught objectively. Personally I believe is evolution but I still would like it to be taught objectively.

I think they should both be taught in either a public or private school. Maybe in a public school, put less emphasis on creationism. Public schools, I think?, it's illegal to force religious views upon the students. They can teach both, but say "Evolution is the scientific belief of how the universe started, meanwhile Creationism is the religious belief on how the universe started" or something like it.
Part of being well-rounded is excepting everyone's views, not pick and choose what you like and be ignorant to the rest.

Did this make sense at all?

I don't think it should be taught in the classroom unless that specific school is based on religious beliefs (such as a catholic school).

I'm not okay with the teaching of creationism in school. If both sides are taught, the school is pushing religion onto the students, which isn't right. Also, they are basically contradicting themselves by teaching both. like i said in another post, religion does not belong in the classroom. it belongs in the home and place of worship.

Creationism isn't science, and therefore shouldn't be taught in a science class.

Of course I think it should be taught in catholic schools, or religion classes in public schools.

i think that both sould be taught b/c there isn't a law or anything states in the consitution that its wrong. but not go so into the creationism when you are in a public school since not all ppl might believe in that. but as for a private school i know from first hand that you are taught both sides. So i think that public schools should give the kids oppions. Not just tell them one.

I think both should be taught because different people believe each one and shouldn't just be taught one thing.

I wouldn't say it isn't science. It is a theory. Basically all science is is theory's, and stay theory's untill proven. The evolution is a theory, we don't have technology or knowledge to understand exactly HOW to universe started. Everything in the world today is matter, which is made of atoms, which is made of protons/neutrons/electrons, which is made of quarks[6 different ones] which they are thought to be made from little strings vibrating. Honestly I am christian, I do believe in creationalism as how the world started. I also think evolution is a good theory. Yet evolution could not happen unless SOMETHING created the first pieces of quarks/atoms/matter.

I believe in schools kids should be taught different THEORY's on how the universe was created. Children/teenagers should decide on there own, and I don't think either way should be "pushed" onto someone. Both theory's should be introduced. & creationalism is not just christian/catholic, basically ALL religions have some sort of god/gods that "created" the universe. So instead of saying "god created the earth in 7 days[which could have been hundreds of thousands of years...wont get into that]" say "one theory is that a higher being or spirit spawned the universe" or somthing along those lines.

Sorry this is long hahaha. I am obsessed with physics, time, and the universe so I tend to ramble. :]

i'm a christian, and i understand that a lot of people believe in evolution, but i think i would like it if they would say something along the lines of, "evolution is the scientific belief on how the world was created and christians and other religous groups believe that god or a 'higher power' created the earth."
i personally don't believe in evolution as far has humans coming from monkeys and all that goes, so it annoys me when i have to get it drilled in my head every year.
but that's just my opinion.

I'd prefer that both were taught. As high school students we should be able to understand that they are both theories and neither is proven to be right. Personally I believe a mix of both. Like I believe that the world is ear as old as evolution says and we have evolved a bit due to needed adaptions to stuff but i think that we were created and not just a random combustion that happend to start us of as amoebas.

Tell me one thing that's scientific about creationism.

Some parts of evolution have been scientifically proven, even though there's a lot of gaps.

If schools teach both, they are contradicting themselves, and sending kids mixed messages. school is where children are supposed to be educated about science. if they feel the need to learn about religion, they have their place of worship, and can be educated about religion there.

Exactly.

not all science is "proven", I am saying its a theory, and is science. Evolution is proven from sea things evolving eventually over hundreds of thousands of years to monkeys, then to humans. I agree with that 100% I am not saying I don't. but how did those sea things get there. They were CREATED somehow, someway, and NOBODY at this moment can prove how. Creationalism is a theory, as is evolution. I believe they can coexist and prove each other right, but most people are either YAY religion and completly disagree with evolution, or BOO religion and won't even think about creationalism.

They are both theory's, not proven COMPLETLY.

honestly, i guess if they just want to make it easier on everyone and stop this agrument, they just shouldn't teach it at all.
every friggin year my class gets in a huge arguement with all the christians and athiests bickering with each other.
it's insane.
i think school is a place to learn.
not to fight about our personal beliefs.

i don't care how much "science" is involved with this whole evolution thing.
i know i'll never believe it.
so if i have to hear it their way, why shouldn't they have to hear it my and millions of others way?

[rant over.]
XD

Being a christian.

I have to say, im sick of hearing the whole evolution thingy.

I think we evolved..AFTER god started us.

I really have to go with none, we learned about that this year, and if we have to CONTINUE learning about it, im going to go insane.

Its not what I belive in, yet it is.

Well, we learnt about Evolution and Creationism in Religion. We had an 8 point question about it in my RS GCSE, I think.

I would say learn both, or learn neither. I think learning just one, would just upset those that don't believe in the theory,

I say teach both and let the students pick which one they want to believe in.

Not everyone can go to a religious school. Therefore both beliefs should be taught in school for those who choose to believe in evolution, and those who do not.
