Creating Character at DLR

Does anyone know if you can still create a character at Innoventions in DLR and if so do you still get a set of Black ears? Also what else can we still get at DLR besides the middle sub piece? Thanks

The only thing that closed was the VMK kiosk outside Innoventions. Although there are rumors that the VMK computer stations inside Innoventions will be taken out, no one has reported that happening yet.

I was able to create a new character there two weeks ago, and did receive black ears, etc.

You should be able to get Magic Mirror cards from the Magic shop, and Animator's Desk cards from the Animation building in California Adventure. I've heard you can still get red penny presses from the candy shop in Critter Country, but cast members don't always know the cards are there.

Edit: Oops, and the pirate pin packs, of course! In addition to those mentioned in the post below mine, they could be at other pin-trading locations, including the Plaza Pavilion carts on Main Street, the Silver Spur in Frontierland, La Mascarade d'Orleans in New Orleans Square, P.T. Flea Market or Greetings From California in DCA, or World of Disney in Downtown Disney. (Hint: the earlier in the day you look, the more likely a store won't be out of stock. If a particular location doesn't have any, you can ask a CM to call and check which ones do.)

Last week, the computers were still there. Unofficial story is they "might" disappear when the Innoventions remodel takes place in the near future.

Also, you can still get a magic mirror card with any purchase from the Magic Shop on Main Street.

And of course the pin packs from Emporium and the Pin Shop in Tomorrowland, as well as the kiosk in DtD.

Have fun!

You can get a penny press by purchasing candy at Pooh Corner (by Splash Mt) You can also get the magic mirror by puchasing something at the Magic Shop on Main Street. Someone suggested that you could buy gift cards at either store and then use them the same as cash to buy what ever you want somewhere else in the Park.

We were at DLR just as VMK Central was closing, and we were told by the Cast Member there, that making a character in the park did not come with black ears. I wish I had not listened to him, as he obviously didn't know what he was talking about if aliceblue got to make one two weeks ago :sad2:
Go check it out and then you will know for sure. ;)

thanks for posting this info everyone good to know that DLR vistors can still make characters at the Park.

What a shame! I know some people have reported not receiving the ears and extra rooms, but that appears to be a periodic bug, as others have continued to receive them.

Let me just say this, NEVER EVER listen to what the CM tells you about things. They don't know. They will not know at any point in time unless whatever was done and even then they may still not know. So don't even bother asking them if something is going to come or go cause they won't have that info. They are not told it. I have heard way to many CMs over the years telling guests the wrong info. Times I did jump in cause it was stuff that needed to be corrected and other times I just roll my eyes. And when it comes to VMK they really don't know and most don't care. I am in no way putting the CMS down that do their job and answer questions correctly but with how things have been over the last few years with the turn over rate on CMs there are a bunch that don't care, don't know the answers and could care less about helping the guests. Hopefully you all don't run into to many of those though and most CMs will try and are super nice (we have come across some really wonderful ones over the years). I really wish that if they didn't know the correct answers they would just say they couldn't tell you at this time instead of what some are being told about VMK computers (or a few other things) and if its certain other things to help the guest find the answers by getting in touch with a CM that can help. I've been going to DL since I was a kid and have seen so much change with the place and the CMs. But for the most part I think we have always been very lucky with the CMs we have come across in parks. Just don't always take their word on certain things. LOL
And we will be going one day this week and one day next week so I will run in next week (can't this week) and give a double check on the computers still being there.

As a former Disneyland CM over many years and wanting to abide by DIS guidelines, I will simply leave my comment on the above to this: Wow! :sad2:

Wow thanks for all the info and help. Which cards do you get from the pin kiosks. As avid pin traders as well, I never realized we could have been getting cards too. As for the new characters, seems like will have to make as many as possible so we have black ears for all to go with our new sub middle pieces!. Good thing my son is great at the Nemo game as I have problems on the easy level!

Oh boy! You are in trouble! :rotfl:

Here's the link with all the pins and the information.

http://eventservices.disney.go.com/pintrading/pin?id=21440
(It says WDW, but they are the same at DLR.)

Each box ($14) gives you 2 randomly packaged real pins and the corresponding vmk item code and card. And I believe the exact words I used were, "Of course I am spending the money for the REAL pins dear husband. I would not spend real money on VMK virtual items, would I?" haha! (Okay, so I LOVE the bow and stern, if only we knew what was in that sealed box! :rotfl:

And if you and your son are into trading in vmk, those items do quite nicely.

Anyhoo, all the rest of the details you can read at the above link.

OT of the pins: You can also get an animation desk and stool card and code over at DCA in the Animation Building. Forgot to mention that earlier.

Have fun!

The VMK pirate pins come in sealed mystery boxes. There are two of 10 possible pins in each box, and each pin is attached to a corresponding VMK card with a code.

The VMK items are Pirate Prison guest room, Pirate Insider Tour pin, seagull hat, stool and post, Captain's Quarter couch, small pirate sand rug, fire window, gold treasure seat, galleon bow chair, and galleon stern chair. (All but the last three were formerly given out for completing the Pirate quest at the park, which ended in December of 2005.) The pins have different names than the VMK cards, but each one features a Disney character "using" the object displayed on the card. They have gold outlining and are really quite nice.

Just because you have heard some CMs give out wrong info doesn't mean they all do. This CM was obviously in the wrong, but cut the CM some slack...there HAVE been cases where people created characters and didn't receive the ears.
Every single person in the world has been guilty at one point or another of being in the wrong...no one is perfect so no one can be right 100% of the time. Therefore we should realize that hey, sometimes a CM might be wrong. But that doesn't mean you should "NEVER EVER" listen to what a CM says and that's really poor advice to tell someone. I get guests with that mentality at The Disney Store all the time (regarding info they want to know about the parks) and the thing is...I KNOW that what I'm telling them is correct but they have that mentality of "CMs are always wrong so I'm never going to listen to what they say because they just don't know." I can't tell you how frustrating, and sometimes angering, it is. That's not to say that CMs will be right on everything...there ARE things that Disney will not reveal to the casual CM. However, I just think it's not in the best interest to advise people to never ever listen to them.

First off, I'm not the only one that has ever heard them give out wrong info. If you go to any other Disney board you will see tons of this stuff out there. I've seen people come back from vacations confused on things because of it. Sadly its because of the turn over rate on CMs in the parks here. They don't learn what they should because they don't care unlike some CMs that have been there for years. I didn't say it was everything but when it comes to being told anything that has to do with VMK, things coming and going in the parks...they really don't have a clue for the most part. I know there are CMs that do know what they are giving out is correct info and its great when there are CMs that do but like I said sadly there are many that don't. Which is why that attitude is out there. Yes there has been times the ears weren't given and such but they aren't going to know or care about that. Its been proven in the past that most the CMs do not give a hoot about VMK. Why should they if they don't play it and are just there to get paid? What I find really sad is that I have seen CMs on other boards admit they don't give out correct info because they won't look it up or get the info for a guest. I didn't say all were this way but there are ones out there like this. And obviously not all newer ones are this way but there are to many that are and usually those are the ones that don't last there which is why there is that big turn over rate in the parks. I'm finished cause I don't want to turn this thread into a fight.
If you go and want to make that in park toon then see if its there for yourself and see if the ears are there when you make it since the CMs give different answers.

BTW, if you guys took what I said as an insult. Sorry. Right now I'm not in the best of moods about lots of things. I'm coming off a bad week of finding out a friend died that I've been trying to find, another lost her baby and another had a mom that had a stroke. Then SIL and her bratty daughter here all weekend with her daughter getting in my son's face constantly and SIL not doing a thing to punish her kid. So not the best of weeks. I'm really annoyed with alot of other things as well right. So sorry I will go back into hiding at this point.

I know I never said that you were the only one who ever heard them give out wrong info...I've heard it from time to time myself, and I participate in theme parks forum much more than I have the VMK forum so I've seen the posts by other people. However, in spite of that, I still don't think it's best to advise someone to "never ever listen" to what a CM says about things. It's one thing to remind guests to make sure they research their info...quite another to tell someone to never ever listen to an employee...because trust me, people can and DO take that to extremes. Like I said, I've had my fair share of guests come into my store with that mentality and it is incredibly frustrating. Guests can be and have been wrong as well...in fact, there are many posts on the DIS boards that prove that too...but we don't tell other members to never ever listen to the people who post here. Which is why I think we should be careful when giving advice like that.

I'm so sorry that you're going through that. Please take some time to yourself to heal and recover emotionally.

OP, sorry to have gone off topic!
