I'm hoping to organize a multi-generational land-and-sea Disney vacation, and thought the best way to keep everyone informed and in-touch would be to create a blog. Is Blogger my best option? Also, I'd like to have the blog look fairly nice; can anyone point me in the direction of a nice Disney- or vacation-themed template for the blog? Any other suggestions for creating such a blog? Thanks very much!

I have a couple of blogs on blogger.com. Neither are a vacation/Disney blog, but they make things pretty painless. Publishing it is painless, and they offer a LOT of templates. Plus, if you have some web development skill, you can customize the template to your own needs. (I have the skill, just don't have the time... :) )

I can give the thumbs up for blogger, though. You can have a blog up in minutes.

I use blogger for my knitting blog and my Disney blog. I really like the format; it is really simple to use. You can check out my Disney blog for ideas. I have a countdown, a list of the resort I have been to, and other stuff. The background is pretty bland, but I like that, because the pictures that you post "pop" more with the bland background. Just click my homepage and you will get to it.

Enjoy your trip! One thing, if you are going to post every day, you might want to find out about internet fees, because they can get a bit pricey. The idea is great though! I have had some friends who did the blog instead of sending out emails, it was a great way to keep everyone up to date.

would have to agree with everyone else--blogger is a great way to go. very easy to edit and get started (if you have a gmail account, it will be VERY quick). it has a lot of templates to choose from. also, i like the way that blogger displays their post archives... they are very easy to find and read (and for people like me, who like reading things from the beginning, that's key!).

I use typepad (monthly fee $4.95) and wordpress - free. I am happy with both, but prefer typepad. I tried blogger briefly but didn't like it.

Thanks for all the tips. I ended up checking out all 3 major blog sites. I've used Blogger previously for a personal, scarcely-updated blog, and really liked it for the most part. WordPress was alright, but didn't look any better than Blogger. As for TypePad, I was really disappointed. I found the site to be extremely rigid and unintuitive, and I was shocked to find out that I would have to upgrade to a pro account in order to customize my blog beyond selecting a pre-fab template and adding widgets (ie. no HTML editing of the template).

Blogger it is. Thanks again!

awesome :woohoo:

I wanted to do the same for several differnt topics but instead of going the blog route, I just registered a domain and built a website. Now I can keep family and friends up to date on the kids and have Disney related info and it all sort of fits under a family blog theme.

I also use it as a learning tool about websites. I don't "love" my design but it was easy and I'm also trying to get good keywords so people can find it on Google. As I learn more I want to make the design more professional looking and continue to grow the site.
