Hi everybody! I just recently called a local television station (one of those "Education Channels") about interning for a high school credit. I spoke with them on the phone, and let them know of my videography and videoediting experience and skills. They want me to send a demo tape...but I don't know where to begin! I tried looking for tips online, but it got me only more confused. If ANYBODY can give me any advice pertaining to:

*how long?
*what it should consist of
*etc

...then it would be very much appreciated! I need to get cracking on this ASAP, so hopefully I can get some tips.

Thanks in advance!!!

I've never done anything like this so I'm going to bump this back to page one for you in hopes that someone will have some advice for you.

They just want to see samples of work.

It doesn't need to be too long--5 to 10 minutes MAX. (I'd shoot for around 5 minutes)

Any pieces you have edited in school, or projects--should be included. Pick only the best though. Don't toss something in you got a "C" on to fill up tape for example. Mix up your short pieces and your long pieces and showcase the skills pertinent to what you would like to be doing for the channel. Don't forget a slate so they know who this demo reel came from---and slate between pieces so they know what they are watching. Think of it as a "resume" of sorts.

When I was in school for television productin (news)--demo reels consisted of a few "packages" (2:00-3:00 pieces of video/sound bite/reporter "stories") for editors, reporters, & photographers and an entire news show for directors/producers/anchors.

Good luck!

I only know about actor demos, but I'd think it would be similar. An actor demo consists of very small clips of several projects. No particular clip last more than a minute. They just want to see a variety of your work.
