I am not a Castmember--just a Disney fan who has visited Disney World many times. I have a small suggestion that may help to make your visit more special and will allow you to be part of the Disney magic. Who knows--this may even create some inner magic that you might bring back and share with others upon your return from a Disney resort.

Disney Castmembers are great--they are the "magic" of Disney World and Disneyland. Working in the happiest places on earth is a tough job--we guests show up with high expectations and Disney Castmembers meet and exceed those expectations no matter how large the crowds, how hot the temperature, or how wet the day. A great Disney experience is made up thousands of interactions with Castmembers, both seen and unseen--from the folks who serve you your meals, load you into attractions, and perform for your enjoyment, to the people who design the rides, clean the parks, and care for the landscaping.

I've seen far too many guests treat Castmembers with indifference or disrespect. If you're the kind of person who feels that you spend you money and are thus entitled to treat Disney Castmembers in any way you wish, then read no further--this suggestion isn't for you!

For those who want to create a special experience for yourself, for other guests, and for Castmembers, here is my suggestion: Be sure to appreciate the Castmembers! Say "Thank You" often. Give them a smile. Ask them how they're doing. Let them know you appreciate their extra effort.

Doing so will put you in a better mood, it will make Castmembers feel good, and it will create more Disney "magic." The greatest magic of all may be what happens inside of you.

On my recent trip, I went out of my way to thank Castmembers--I thanked the people who directed me into ride vehicles, the ones who told me to watch my step when I left a ride, the security guards who checked my wife's purse in the way into parks, the Castmembers at the parking booths, the folks who staff the turnstiles, servers in restaurants, and others. And you know what happened? I got a lot of nice smiles in return and felt like I was part of the Disney magic. I enjoyed my Disney experience more and returned home with a better attitude because I went out of my way to appreciate the hard-working Castmembers.

So, when you next visit Disneyland or Walt Disney World, make it a point to share the magic with a Castmember. You might just find you end up creating an even more magical experience for you and your family!

i wholeheartedly agree... i did a stint as a CM on the college program, and I'll tell you, not every guest is a ray of sunshine... it can really get you down! But I have some stories of some AMAZING guests who really spread the magic, and made me happy to be a part of their happy place! :)

Appreciate the nice comments. On the one hand, I envy Castmembers--Disney is, after all, an exciting place to work. But on the other hand, I know it's a tough job to make people happy all the time.

So much of the time we talk about "Disney magic" without really giving credit where it is due--that magic is all created by someone! My thanks go out to all the Castmembers who made my visit last week a special one. Hopefully my smile and thanks helped them feel a little more appreciated for a job well done!
