cream puff/bavarian cream recipe anyone?

Hi all..when asking husband what he wanted for his birthday..his reply was 'cream puffs filled with bavarian cream'..only have 2 bakeries in the city..and neither of them make them..they put in some kind of 'vanilla pudding' instead of bavarian cream...can any DIS'ers come to the rescue with a tried and true (and hopefully not too difficult ) recipe?..have checked recipe bazaar and food tv and found a couple..but am hoping for someone on here to have made these in the past willing to share their secrets..thanks in advance

I could get you a recipe for the cream puffs. If I can make them, anyone 10 year old or older could. The bavarian cream is a tough one. I know they have frozen ones at Sam's club and I think Gordon Food. They taste wonderful. Maybe with some home made fudge sauce? It's not 100% home made, but VERY yummy!

Let me know if you want just the cream puff recipe.

BAVARIAN CREAM

INGREDIENTS:
2 tablespoons unflavored gelatin
1/2 cup cold water
4 egg yolks
1/2 cup white sugar
1 pinch salt
2 cups milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 cups heavy cream

DIRECTIONS:
In a small bowl, stir together the gelatin and cold water. Set aside to soften. In a medium bowl, whisk together the egg yolks, sugar and salt until smooth.
In a medium saucepan, bring the milk to a boil. Stir a small amount into the egg yolk mixture, then stir the egg yolk mixture into the hot milk until well blended. Whisk in the softened gelatin and vanilla. Run through a strainer, and allow to cool.
When the mixture has cooled almost to room temperature, whip the heavy cream to medium stiffness and fold into it. Refrigerate until ready to use.

but I managed to talk the owner of the local bakery into making me some..they really only make eclairs..but said if I ordered a dozen..he would make cream puffs filled with bavarian cream for me..he even let me sample a free eclair to make sure the filling was 'the real thing'..lol!
