Cream Cheese...?

Sorry if this is a repeat, I have searched and can't find the info anywhere (that I've looked!). I was wondering what kinds of groceries are available at the resort gift shops, specifically POR. I know milk is available, but what about cereal/bread/bagels/cream cheese/cheese/lunchmeat/fruit...?

We're trying to save money on food (hubby is horrified by the cost of everything, I'm surprised he agreed to the trip at all!), and I'd like to make some lunches to take in, but will have no car, and for what we'd buy I don't think gardengrocer makes sense...

Also, does anyone know if I can bring cream cheese on a plane in carry on? I'd love to bring a tub (if I can't buy it at POR), but I'm guessing that I'd have to bring small packets (under 3oz), but I don't know where I'd find those... Help!

Thanks so much!

I am not sure you'd be able to bring even the packets onto a plane in your carry-on. If you are checking luggage, you can take cream cheese in that. I have a small ice pack (the size that fits in a lunch box) that we put in a zip lock baggie with the cream cheese. It definitely stays cold enough to prevent spoiling; last trip, the cream cheese was in the suitcase for over 16 hours. Another suggestion is to pack a small, insulated lunch box/sack and put the ice pack and perishables in there. We've found this works well for cream cheese, yogurt, yogurt drinks, etc. Remember that yogurt and most cheeses are fermented foods and not as perishable as you might think! Just make sure everything is in a ziplock so if there's an "issue" you won't have food all over your packed clothes.

Several years ago we took an unopened, circular package of Lauging Cow cheese spread ( comes in about 8 triangular little foil wrapped servings). We here allowed to carry it through security although they did "swab" it. I think there is cream cheese that is packed that way. Might be worth a look - the Laughing Cow we took did not need refrigeration.

As PP said, the BoardWalk Inn gift shop is on the BoardWalk, and it should have cream cheese. Same for the gift shop at any Disney resort which has a DVC section, in case you happen to be at or near one of them. Let's see if I can name them:
- BoardWalk
- Beach Club
- Contemporary
- Polynesian
- Wilderness Lodge
- Animal Kingdom Lodge
- Grand Floridian

(I assume you will not happen to be at Old Key West or Saratoga Springs Resort.)

People may think I'm super cautious, but I wouldn't be comfortable packing cream cheese in my checked bag. You don't know how long it will be sitting out on the runway in the heat and sun.

If you google DVC shopping list you will get a list of the items that are sold at the resorts that have DVC. Hopefully this list from the Boardwalk Villas will work: http://***********.com/bwv_grocery.pdf (mouse owners . com /bwv_grocery.pdf)

My husband always takes a soft sided cooler as his personal item with lunch and snacks.

Cream cheese will hold up fine in a checked bag. You can put it in your carry-on, but only the type packaged as individual servings in your 311 bag.

Not sure if you have a Disney Visa card or not but there is a new promotional offer that if you apply for a Disney Visa and charge $500 within the first 3 months then you get a $200 disney gift card free. The best part is that there is no annual fee. You have to know someone who gets the offer because they have to share the special pin number that is attached with the offer when they call to apply. I got my offer and pin # in the mail today and I am having all my close relatives apply for the card and then give me the $200 gift card as a birthday present :) My Mom and Dad and two sisters are all applying so I am almost going on vacation for free. Th offer is good until September 2015 so it a great deal !!

I was hoping to talk my family members into applying for the card from my offers, also, and then give me the gift card, but they are all Disney fans who want to keep the $200 gift card for themselves!!

I'm not surprised to hear that. My mom gave me a brick of Parmesan as gag gift one Christmas & I got stopped at airport security on the flight home. When I said that I realize they are doing their jobs, but I would like to know what I did to catch their attention so I don't do it again, the TSA agent was kind enough to explain that cheese looks likes plastic explosives in their x-ray machines. Well, you learn something new every day.

You can buy individual cream cheese servings in the CS area of your hotel for 25 cents I think. I'd rather pay 28 cents a morning then have food poisoning :(
