DH and I are getting 16.5 free flights for signing up for SW premier credit card:cool1::banana::wizard::rotfl: Crazy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

we each signed up and got the card....100000 points.....plus some bonus points, another 1000, so 101000 points...........each flight is 6,000 points.............:cool1: with the 1000 bonus, almost 17 free one way flights to MCO from PIT:banana::cool1: we are going in Sept, Aug and now maybe even December, whoo hooo!:cool1:

FYI banks are beginning to issue 1099s for these bonus miles so you are taxed as income, Citi bank will be issuing 1099s at a rate of 2.5 cents per mile...

"We asked the IRS and, indeed, Citi appears to be right. “When frequent flyer miles are provided as a premium for opening a financial account, it can be a taxable situation subject to reporting under current law,” IRS spokeswoman Michelle Eldridge says via email

It sounds like the Citi bank 1099s are because the accounts opened were regular deposit (checking/saving) accounts, not credit cards. Sign-up credits of anything on deposit accounts - cash or even things like toasters - are considered gifts and as such have been taxable for as long as I can remember. That's nothing new - lots of folks have gotten 1099s on this sort of stuff. The only twist here was that the sign-up credit was given in the form of FF miles instead of cash this time. But since they are still considered gifts, they are taxable.

Miles for credit card accounts are considered rebates, not gifts, and are therefore non-taxable. This has not changed.

that's cool....if the flights stay that amount of points to 'purchase':thumbsup2 I'm hoping to hang onto ours till I can match them with a good flight deal also...

Each flight is not 6,000 points. They vary considerably in price/points.

But thier flight in particular is about 6,000 points. As long as they book when it's discounted.

It averages to 7,000 points for the flights I take. But I only fly when I get a flight between $99-$124.

THIS is exactly right. We signed up for the card, only one, and got 50,000 miles. I guess it depends on where you are starting and ending, but 6,000 for each leg of the flights is a little naive. I can't even fly from Minneapolis to Chicago RT, for 12,000 points.

I guess if where your going is 6,000 each leg, you got a heck of a deal! :thumbsup2

Flights on Southwest always seem to change, but if you fly often enough, you'll see a pattern of lows and highs, especially traveling in the off season.

BTW, any one know what happened to the monthly calendar look? Where you could see the low price of the day, for each day of the month.

She said she's going from PIT to MCO and possibly in Aug, Sept and Dec.
There are many flight choices at 6000 points one way from now until end of September. Dec is not open get.

Enjoy your free trips, OP!

:lmao:You must have some super special deal, since your flights always stay the same price, all the time.

Check the website. No super special deal. From PIT to MCO - many 6000 point choices and non stop to boot!

BWI is 7860...still a good price but not as good as OP's deal.

never paid more than $230 R/T to MCO.....December, November or September.......I have paid as little as $49 one way...so:cool1:

You know, instead of ridiculing the OP for something, maybe you should give her credit for knowing what she is doing. Obviously, you do not. Because if you did, you would have seen that there are currently a lot of flights between PIT and MCO that sell for 6,000 points in both August and September. No flight information is available for December yet, which is why the OP qualified that month with a "maybe".
