We are taking the Amtrak train from Minneapolis to Indy today.

Just wanted to say Hello and ask if anyone else has taken the train before.

I love train travel, it is so awesome!

Gosh, I grew up taking the train everywhere! My dad works for Amtrak, has for over 30 years. He was based out of Philadelphia, and I can't tell you how many trips to visit my uncle in Washington, DC, and my aunt in the Tampa area, I took. I LOVED it, particularly when I got older and was allowed to travel solo (I always did like my alone time :upsidedow ) Now that the perks are gone, and I live so far away from my parents (me, Minnesota, them, Los Angeles), I haven't been on a train in too many years. We are planning on taking the boys to Chicago this summer, though, and I think DH will drive down for work during the week, and the boys and I will hop on the train and meet him.

My Uncle worked for CN Rail for 50 years (literally started as a teenager). When I had to undergo surgery as a teenager it involved weekly trips to the hospital. My Mom hated to drive out of the small town we lived in so she & I would drive to the small city nearby and take the train from there.
I would love to take a longer trip.

I took Amtrak twice in my life. Once a round trip from Miami to Orlando. The ride took SIX HOURS each way on Amtrak ... what would normally not take more than four hours by car. That was a mess and I'd never do it again.

Another time, we took the Auto Train from Lorton, VA to Orlando, FL. That was a nice overnight ride, especially since we got a First Class sleeper. I'd definitely do that again.

Took Amtrak twice to Florida. Auto train the first time when i was in the 7th grade. Then train from New York Penn Station to Florida when i was in high school. We had a sleeper both time. God was that cool!!! Little did i know one day I would be a New Jersey Transit conductor working out of Penn Station. Everytime I hear them make a announcement for Silver Meteor, always remember the trips I took with my family.

As a kid my Mom brought my DBro, DSis, and I back from the Wis. Dells on the Amtrak. We had so much fun. a lot better than the drive up with my Aunt and Grandma. It was so cool as a kid to visit the dining car and have lunch.

That's something I want to do with Gabby soon.

Wow I hand't thought of this for years, when I was younger my Aunt and Grandma took my DBro, DSis and I to Milwaukee on the Amtrak, to the zoo. That was so much fun. Milwaukee county zoo has the biggest catfish I'd ever seen .

My longest trip was from Anaheim to Vancouver Canada. It was such a beautiful ride. The first 7 hours was mostly coastal so everyone was on the side of the beach. I will never forget this one part while we were in the dinning car. We were in a tunnel and then we came to a huge valley in Oregon. People all stopped what they were doing. It was so beautiful!!. You just could never see this by car. The trip was 48 hours and we took a cruise ship back to Ca. Best trip.

If you ever going to Disneyland pick it up in Anaheim and take it to San Diego. It's a beautiful ride and there are so many things to do in San Diego. It drops you off near Gaslamp District so you can catch a tour of the city.

We are home, and it was a wonderful day yesterday.

I love taking the train, and I hope that more people continue to take the train. Our daughter Ginny was in awe. She was just standing there and the world was going by outside the window.

Surely an excellent day!
