We have been pricing short summer getaways for the five of us. A one week cruise would be six thousand plus air, and five days at a lodge at Algonquin ark would be fifty five hundred. We will probably end up at akl for about twenty two hundred for five nights. That includes air, car, food. Passes are already paid for. I love my dvc. It lets us vacation.

There might be discounts offered for Carnival Cruise Line in the coming months ... ? ;)

OTOH, Carnival may be the safest ships out there for awhile, since they are undoubtedly going to be getting lots and lots of "help" with that, don't you think? ;) :rotfl2:

HAA!!! I live over in CA and when one of our ships got stuck with an electrical fire about 3 years ago we ended up booking a 7 day cruise on that same ship months out for nearly nothing!!! When my husband saw it had happened again he said "time to book another cheap cruise!" :lmao:

Yep, call me an 'Opportunist' -- but that is how I play the game.

We lost our Black Sea sailing on the Norwegian Dream in 1999 when the ship was involved in an accident in the English Channel. We rebooked immediately for one of her first itineraries post-repair and enjoyed terrific savings visiting the Holy Lands later that year.

We booked our once-in-a-lifetime journey to Antarctica when the expedition line we booked through was having serious financial troubles and a ship from its sister company was seized in a Tahitian port for not paying its fuel bills. Great deal, even better memories! The company we had sailed with folded months after our journey.

I remember Carnival's troubles off Mexico's Pacific Coast a few years back. Indeed, while we've never done a Carnival Cruise ... it might be time to book if the deals are right!

Thanks again to the DIS boards - we have a RCCL Alaska cruise booked out of Anchorage this summer our whole family and air is a major problem so I checked RCCL out of Seattle for same dates - no triples and we need one sooooo after reading this I checked Carnival and yea they have availability and are about 800.00 PP less and the flights are so much better!

What do you know DIS boards may have saved the extended family vacation!;)

I'm now crossing Carnival off our list no matter how cheap it gets.

This morning's news mentioned that both the Legend and the Dream were having problems. One is "limping" back to Tampa (cancelled rest of its stops) with some type of mechanical issue and the other had a generator failure that resulted in no power to the elevators and toilets for some period of time.
