Crazy to do Caribbean in August?

Just back from our second DCL cruise and the placeholder is already burning a hole in my inbox!

Considering either Treasure or Destiny sailings next August. My question - are we crazy to go to the Caribbean in August? We were pretty toasty on Castaway this past week - and it’s early February. Are we going to roast and be miserable on the beaches and excursions?

Treasure is a 7 night eastern itinerary to Tortola, St Johns, and Castaway; Destiny is 5 night to Castaway, Nassau, and Lighthouse (though we would stay on the ship for Nassau day). Both are amazing itineraries but I’m afraid we will be hot and miserable!

We sail just about every August and I love it. I much prefer that than when we have gone in December and its been too cold to wear a bathing suit.

We go every September... Castaway/Lookout are hot, but it is so nice on the ship...

We are strongly considering the 10 night in 2026, but my goodness the price is difficult to stomach!

Just sent our travel agent the request to book Destiney Aug 10-25, 2026 when it opens on Thursday. This is Castaway and Lighthouse with a Nassau stop - we’ll likely use Nassau as a day with the ship to ourselves, and hopefully there is a nice breeze on the beaches!

Just warning you that lots of people skip Nassau. At least they did last month on the Fantasy. If the ship was less crowded that day, I didn't notice. And I've seen others comment the same thing...Nassau isn't that great and people know that and everyone wants more ship time. Someone in the know probably has actual data on what percent of people don't disembark at certain ports.

You will not have the ship to yourselves in Nassau. The majority of people don’t get off at Nassau and it feels like a regular day at sea.

We’ve cruised to the Bahamas in August one year for a 5 night double dip and another year at the end of July for a 3 night - it was surface of the sun hot. I personally loved it because I love super hot weather at the beaches … I love nothing more than floating on a raft at Castaway Cay and August is ideal for that!

We were on Utopia of the Seas last week (2/3-2/7) with 2 stops at Coco Cay and one stop at Nassau and it was exceptionally nice weather for February, but it was not even close to August in terms of heat, humidity and blazing sun.

In fact, it was so crowded on Nassau day that, next time, I'm tempted to pay for the Atantis day pass so my kids have a shot at getting into a swimming pool and I can walk around a bit without getting a stroller wheel to the ankle!

We did one many years ago on the Dream (when *it* was new). I remember my feet almost melting off at Castaway Cay, and watching some bride get married in 120 degree weather. Still, it's plenty cool on the ocean, so I'd do it again. I'd just bring shoes to CC.

Something no one has mentioned is that August is hurricane season so there’s always a chance for your cruise to be rerouted, shortened/lengthened (and much more rarely, canceled). That’s why August and September’s Caribbean rates tend to be cheaper, irrespective of the heat factor.
