crazy question- gold room keys?

i should have posted this when i returned from wdw in mid may- but...

while there our room keys/ park hopper cards were golden in color. i didn't think anything about it but everywhere we went (restaurants, vendors, souvenirs shops, etc) everyone commented about the cool gold cards "never seen these before".
anyone know what this was about? did they just (in May) change over to gold colored cards??
the first few times i didn't think much of the comments, but it was happening repeatedly- i finally started asking back - 'do i get something special for the gold card?" of course i was told "NO" !

I sure hope they changed over the card to Gold. The Tink one's are getting old. That is even what you get on DCL!! No fun!

Did you stay conceirge? I believe I read somewhere the conceirge ones are golden.

yes we did stay concierge- for part of the trip--

any other concierge have gold cards???

When we stayed concierge at GF June 1 - 6, we got the standard issue blue card, no gold card here.

Just got back from the Poly concierge and we had gold cards.

I will say if we get there late and have to check in out front our cards have been blue but whenever we check in through the concierge desk our cards have been gold.

Try checking in at a DVC Grand Villa with a dozen people. Took me half an hour while they tried to get all the names right!!! Very frustrating.

I stayed in a one bedroom suite on the Disney Wonder on part of my honeymoon!

I think the gold card is a way to distinguish concierge priviledges.

They sure are pretty!

It is true, gold is for concierge. If you got the standard blue ones a while ago, they just may not have had them availible yet, since they just changed the keys over from Tink in May.

that explains it i guess! it was just a bit funny as many CM's kept remarking about the cards how they hadn't seen them before.

We stayed Poly conc. Thanksgiving 2003 and had gold cards.

I had the same response from cast members, they took a double take.

One asked why it was gold and I told her I thought is was because we were staying conceirge.
