We are going to BWV's in May with a 2 & 4 year old. Husband is beginning to freak out...worried about everything with them. He has this idea that he wants to ship a box of toys down there in advance, anyone done this? He feels things will go more smoothly if they have their favorite stuff to play with and keep them entertained for times that we are in the room. Both kids don't watch TV etc so movies are out.

I think he's nuts but then again..maybe??

thanx for everyones advice

I say do it!! My Dh freaks out about our sons like that. As long as I get to go to WDW, I meet him halfway. I would recommend, letting them take 1 each of their favorite toy and carry it with them. Tell him you would be worried about the box being lost during shipping, (which I know I would be).
HTH and Good Luck in calming your DH down :wizard:

Are you spending most days in the parks? If so during their down time I think they would be so tired. If not, I would suggest taking along books (which are so easy to pack and carry) and a carry on bag full of their favorite things. I think that might make your life easier.

We usually drive and I allow each or our two kids to take a backpack with toys of their choice. Once there they usually do not pick up those toys anymore. There is just so much stimulation and new things to do and see that they are more than occupied with the surroundings. Good Luck. (our kids are 3 &5)

At 2 & 4, I think your kids are old enough to either carry or drag their own kid-sized backpacks through the airport, JMO. Of course, that assumes they'll cart their own rather than using you as a pack mule! :lmao: But I like the idea of "here's your backpack, choose the toys you want to pack in it." Parental assistance as necessary. ;)

I'm a fan of inflatable toys. DS5 absolutely LOVES beach balls because they are the only balls we let him have inside! They travel really compactly, too.

I also think it depends on how much down time you are planning to have. Our first trip DS was 4 and we didn't have much down time in our five days. Naptime each day was it--we burned the candle at both ends, so we didn't leave much time for relaxing at the resort. Our normally sleep-resistant son fell into bed each night with Pal Mickey and his Stitch light-chaser (say what you want, but it was well worth our $15 investment!!) and conked out immediately.

The only toys we wished we had brought were a few bath toys. DS wasn't particularly impressed with me drawing faces on styrofoam cups and convincing him those were bath toys. . . :confused3 In retrospect, a tube of tiny plastic animals would have gone a long way!

Good luck!

Bring a few things (favorite animal for sleeping, blanket if needed, etc.) but you should be fine without needing to mail stuff down there. We survived 11 nights in a studio at BWV with two kids ages 2 and 4. Between the park and the pool, mine went off to sleep rather quickly once we were in the room for the evening (naps were a problem, though). Try going to the Disney store and getting some small, easy to pack plastic characters (on sale hopefully) and then supplement these with a few more that you buy in gift shops down there. Save them as a surprise for when you arrive, so they have something new. My kids were happy with this, and set them up for playing on the table, bed, windowsill, in the bathtub, etc. (Buying the light-up toys ahead of time for the parades is also a money-saving tip - but save them for the time when you are waiting, so you get the most out of them.)

You should have a fun (if tiring) time with your little ones. Mine are now 12 and 14, and most interested in running from coaster to coaster. I'm in training to keep up with them.

I always bring an assortment of small toys, books and crayons. I find it especially helpful during meals. When my DS was 18mos, I knew he'd want to grab all the china on the table, so I packed a small tea set. It was ceramic so I wrapped it in a cloth and kept it in my "mealtime bag of tricks." It worked great - and at character meals it got him a lot of attention - Minnie and Mary Poppins both stopped and had a pretend tea party with us. I also brought Mickey and Minnie puppets. My kids tend to like small action figures and animals so I've never felt the need to bring their bigger toys. Have a great time!!
