Last night DS asked Dh what we are going to do over the holiday weekend. DH says "on Friday we'll go shopping". I think he's lost his marbles. I hate BF shopping. Every year my in laws come down for Thanksgiving. Every year my FIL says let's go shopping. No in laws this year so I figured no BF shopping. There is nothing I need so bad that I need to brave the crowds for.

I'm not so into Black Friday shopping myself.

Yes, I love the deals, but too many mean, rude and competetive people. Lately large crowds scare me.

It takes the joy out of Christmas when people will trample others to get one of the only five items the store has in stock.

I think a new father/son tradition is in order, in honor of mom, who worked so hard on Thanksgiving. She gets the day to do whatever she wants to :)

I'm sorry that people are like that where you are - people where i am are very nice and helpful - most of the time the closest people to the "stuff" are handing it out over their heads to other people and then ask is there anyone else that would like one before they move on ...:goodvibes

i hope that people will be reminded what this season is all about...:thumbsup2

I agree with the previous poster. While there are always a few nasty folks, there is definitely a spirit of fun in general around here. I hit a few stores then go to work. Last year one of the local churches even had a rummage sale and I found cute things there. Who would have expected that on Black Friday?

DH wants to go to Walmart before work on Friday! He's cracked!

Yeah, I totally agree... why do there have to be the mean nasty people who will do anything to get what they want. There seem to be few nice people around here anymore. ::sigh::

My wife and I LOVE Black Friday!

We go out just for the fun of it. This is what truly kicks off our Christmas season. We've never run into issues beyond waiting in line and maybe not getting what we are after.

This year we aren't really after anything but we'll still go out for the heck of it!

We usually go out for BF, I mean it's fun and it's just kinda an adventure.

Last year we were on a charter trip and we would have had to taxi to the town across the river, plus figuring out how to get any purchases home. This year we are going on the same trip so no BF. Luckily my nephews are older and we no longer have to try to get some "hot" toy. What they want we just buy, hopefully on sale but if not then we don't worry about it, because they are usually just after some electronic or hunting/outdoor gear and you can get that anytime. Anything we as adults want, we can wait till after Christmas to get it or find something else.

Good luck to all the BF shoppers. I'll miss being out there with you.

ITA...It's a fun holiday tradition!

I vote for this one! If you don't want to go you should not have to.

I love BF and will be there bright and early so I can race home and watch QVC first ever BF. popcorn::

BF really isn't that bad if you go out after the morning rush. There are still usually lots of deals and the crowds are minimal. I have found Black Friday to be much less crowded compared to Saturday! Just go out after lunch.

I work PT at a retail store and I work BF 6-close. I was alredy told to expect to be stocking and filling and straightening all night. It won't be busy that evening but we will have to get the store back in order from the morning!

I used to go out on BF to the mall just to see close I could park to the door!! I usually got within 4 or 5 spots without having to circle around all of the time. :lmao: My wife was always amazed at how close I could get to the door whenever we went out-BF or not.

I used to go out with my sister every year. Then she kind of got in to some....well she had some major life issues and her life was turned upside down. Now she's not the same person, and BF hasn't been the same since. I tried going out with my SIL's a few years but it just wasn't the same....and this year my husband actually took off work and said we'd go. My stomach kind of churns just thinking about it LOL....not sure I want to brave the crowds, and it's just not the same without my sis.

I used to love going out, until I went one year shortly after having knee surgery on crutches (crazy, I know). I didn't get anything, and nobody even held a door open for me.

This year, I *might* go to the outlets nearby on Thanksgiving night; they are opening around 10. Somehow, staying up late seems more appealing than getting up at 4 am.

Maybe the stores are just getting too early for me... Anyway, I think I'll watch QVC on black friday, too. After my discount, the black friday deals aren't so great. And I'm mostly done shopping, anyway.

:hug::hug: What a good hubby!

I've found that the stores are getting better and better at organizing the sales to avoid the drama and fights. Giving out tickets to those who are in line for the specific number of hot items they have in stock, counting heads and limiting the number of people who enter at one time, overstaffing; and last year at Best Buy, there was a Cincinnati Police Officer in the parking lot all night. Made me feel much better standing there with a ton of strangers at 3 a.m.
All that being said, I've had better luck and a better experiences shopping the more out of the way stores. Our local stores are actually pretty fun, you see lots of neighbors and everyone is in a great mood and having fun.
I'm skipping it this year because there is nothing we NEED from the big sale items and it's going to be COLD, but hubby said he may still go and look for fun (if he doesn't have to work). While he's gone, the kids and I are cranking up the Christmas music, snacking on holiday treats, and putting up the tree and decorations. I'm really looking forward to it. :thumbsup2

Just wanted to say that I hope your siggy works as well :) We've had 2 failed IVFs since 2008, our last one was just this past September :( I hope Mother Nature kicks in for you as well ;)
