Crazy for the Pearls for Japan Pavilion?

sure... rub it in!:rotfl2:

I'd have to buy pearls all day long to get something other than a white one.:headache: and DH won't let me. Maybe I could bribe him to watch more drumming!:lmao:

This is officially my new obsession! I would have stayed there all day picking pearls if DH and DS would have let me!!

I don't know if it is still there, but I did this at Downtown Disney (Market Place)

I thought this would be helpful information for those who didn't plan on going into EPCOT or wanted something to do on a "no park day"

In Epcot - the Japan pavilion has a place inside the store - and for $14ish you can buy an oyster. They open it - and they see how big it it. Could bring in drumroll if it is large and then have silver of gold findings you can mount or put the pearl in.
Fun for adults - not sure about kids.

My DD and I did this last week at Japan. She's 4 years old and she loved every minute of it! We did not have it set into jewelry yet, I want to see some more options from my favorite jeweler. My DH tried to get us to do it again at DTD, but it just wasn't the same so I declined (yeah, I'm crazy :lmao: )

We ended up with matching pearls. Both 7mm, both pinkish in color. Talk about a warm fuzzy mom-daughter moment! I'm actually considering having them set into earrings for her for when she's older.

On a side note, my mom did this for me when I was a teen at Sea World. They actually had divers go into a large tank and choose your oyster! Very cool!

Oh, how very nice! This is a great way to start memories that you can wear! I'm glad so many love it as much as I do!

This is one of my Disney addictions......I have had a tennis bracelet and necklace made from the pearls in Japan.
The largest we have gotten was 9mm and that is the one that is in the middle of my tennis necklace......we have also had 2 sets of "twins". One set I used for earrings for my niece, they had a pink cast and the other were both "black" and they are in my bracelet.

(My Mom also have this same addiction;))

Do any of you have pictures of you jewerly made from the pearls. And did any of you have the jewerly made there? How expensive is it?

Oops, i forgot to log in before posting the messege.

I did this when we were in Busch Gardens in Tampa. I had it mounted for a necklace and wear it all the time. I can't remember how much it was to mount it - it was 5 or 6 years ago so I'm sure the prices have gone up just like everything else.

I'm thinking about doing this in September. I'd love to get a colored pearl!

I would love to post my pictures I just can't figure out how......The earrings I had made there. My tennis necklace & bracelet I had made at home. I brought the pearls to my local jeweler and the had the pearls drilled, I pick out the chain I wanted linking them together and that was it. I am thrilled how they came out! The total process took about 7 days from the time I picked out the chain until I picked them up.

When I got my twins I had earring made. I think the posts were $29. So for under $50 I got a set of pearl earrings. The post were white gold...

This past December I picked a creamy white 7.5mm pearl :cool1: I of course had to have one after my sister had picked a beautiful 6.5 pinkish pearl. I decided to have mine set into a "rabbit ear" style setting for a necklace and love it! My total for the pearl and setting was approx $30. My sister got a bit more elaborate with hers and was a necklace setting with a small diamond, couldn't tell you how much that cost though. I would recommend doing this at the Japan pavilion, i think the atmosphere and experience is just better. I was able to pick my pearl, choose a setting, watch the candy lady, and pick up my finished product within an hour (there was a little bit of a backup). I say go for it! The surprise is the best part!
PS-pick the ugliest looking ones, they are "supposed" to have the biggest pearls!

Tons of Questions!

One, just to buy the oyster is $14 right? There are no additional costs aside from picking out jewelry?

Two, has your jewelry held up? I'm afraid that if I had a necklace made out of a pearl it would fall out easily. I know they know what they are doing, but I didn't know how well the metal around the pearls held up.

Ok, I lied. Only 2. I'm pretty excited about this though. I told my FH to not get me anything as a wedding gift and I'll just have him take me here to have it made. I think it will be great to finally have a TRUE pearl. I have tons of pearl jewelry that have been passed down to my by my grandparents, but none have been real, but I've been told they are as close to real as they can get without actually being it! lol. That makes me feel better about them atleast. Plus my entire weddings theme is based around pearls too! :-D I'm EXCITED!!!!

I got a pearl there last May and had it mounted on a ring. I fiddle with the ring all the time - and the pearl just fell off (so it lasted almost a year). I was able to take it to a jewelry repair cart at the mall and they reglued it (pretty cheap can't remember the exact cost). It would have lasted a lot longer I'm sure if I didnt wear the ring every day and twirl it around :)

I also get compliments on it everywhere - always a fairly long explanation when people ask where I got it!

I had my pearl set in a gold cage setting for two reasons...1. The pearl wasn't altered at all from it's original state (ie. no drilling or glueing to set it) and 2. I wouldn't have to worry about it losing it.

How much was your gold setting, if you don't mind me asking?

and I have a number of pieces and all have held up! So don't be afraid, any more than if you bought it a Mall shop! I think these ladies have a lot of pride in their work. :lovestruc

Gosh, I honestly can't remember but it couln't have been very much cause DH was with me and he's a cheapie! :lmao: I'm thinking less then $30

This sounds like a really fun thing to do at EPCOT. Wonder why I've never noticed it or heard of it before??

This is when I like to blame my kids for keeping me distracted most of the time.:cutie:
