Okay I need input here. We are staying at the Fort from Oct 26 until Nov 3. This is a rescheduled trip from last Christmas due to DD's surgery. We're sad about missing the Osborne lights again and worried about the rumors that this will be the last year.

Here is my crazy idea. We check out Sunday and leave the camper stored somewhere for 6 days and return for one night at the Fort just to go see the lights. We will be in our 14 day window so tickets won't be an issue. Also with the wife's camry we could save on gas. A second option is just book a room for one night on or off site. Were about 500 miles away from the Fort. Any ideas or input is appreciated.

The Osborne lights start on Nov 8 this year from what I have read.

Wow so sad to hear that they are no longer going to have the Osborne lights after this year... I'm so glad I will at least get to see them one more time...
If I was you I would try to get back to see the lights one more time...

A. I read somewhere that there was speculation that the Osborne lights would be moving to Epcot, I think.

but B. I think if they mean a lot to you you should make sure to go see them this year!

So question - is your camper a towable or a driveable? If towable, you'll still need to drive your tow vehicle back and forth rather than the Camry (unless you have something tiny that you tow with the Camry. Not that you can't drive your TV back and forth, just noting that. If you have a MoHo that that you tow the Camry with, then disregard this thought.

I guess it comes down to finding a place to store it at a decent price. I'd be weighing out the price to store vs. the gas and site rate vs. the cost of a room and gas for a smaller vehicle.

So your plan is to

  • Check out Sunday
  • Store your camper somewhere nearby
  • Go home, come back six days later
  • Retrieve your camper
  • Go back to the Fort for one night
  • Then drive home with the camper.

I think its going to be considerably cheaper and less hassle to just go home with the camper Sunday, drive back and stay at an off site hotel for that last day. Off site hotel maybe cheaper than a spot at the Fort.

FWIW, I would vote for chartle's plan too, flametamr. Keep it simple on your return visit.

For the record I have a 29 ft bumper pull and an older Ford F150. Gas mileage is nonexistent. We are considering having the wife follow me down in the Camry regardless of the trip back to Orlando. There are basically 4 adults and two kids by size. My truck only seats 5 legally. Also on the return trip we may only have 4 or 5. I am leaning towards the idea of bringing everything home and if we go back just take the car and get a decent hotel. Thanks Everyone

The rumors I read are that this is the last year for the Osborne lights at HS due to Starwars construction. There is a smaller rumor that the lights may go to Epcot since they had a display long ago. There is no way of knowing thanks to Disney's secret keeping. It's hard to plan anything in the future.
