Craziest table mates you have had.

Sometimes I think DCL has an entire team of private investigators that collect background info on passengers and use it to set up table mates. They are usually really good at finding similarities and putting people together. It is so cool that you were able to help the table communicate with your signing skills.
From all of these stories, I kind of wish we weren't concierge with our own table. I'd be curious to see if DCL could find people as crazy as us!! LOL jk.

As I think I have posted on another dining thread a long time ago, my family quite enjoyed having tablemates to engage in conversation with. On our last cruise, we were seated by ourselves, so our dinner conversation every evening went something like this...

"So... how was your day?"
"Ummmm... pretty much exactly the same as yours."
"Yeah, right. Boy, these rolls sure are delicious..."
:rolleyes1
bahahahahah!! this is us every night and every vacation. So I guess my only crazy table mate would be my DH ha!

Worst table mates ever on a RCCL cruise. On the first night the mother apologized for her rude 3 daughters before they arrived at the table.

Here's a solution for her: Don't take your unruly, rude or disrespectful children on a cruise with you. Tell them that if they can't act like decent human beings then they don't get to travel with you. Parents spend too much money on a cruise to have to deal with children who act like jerks enough to require a preemptive apology.

We've only shared a table on two cruises - both on Celebrity. On one, we were invited guests (casino) and sat at a fairly large table. I don't remember everyone, but one older couple was well off, frequent travelers and cruisers and the wife loved "holding court". They moved from our presumably "common" table very soon. They did still deign to speak with us when we saw one another. (The husband WAS a HUGE roller in the casino.) Another couple at the table was interesting. The one guy seemed like a pretty sharp, hard working businessman. His partner was younger and whined about every.single.thing. At one point the younger guy was beside himself because he didn't get enough of the "good" wine (that DH and I had bought to share with the table and was quickly depleted). He bullied our casino host into buying another bottle of it - though it was likely outside the host's permissible price range. After all the very awkward whining and complaining, the wine was brought and poured. And exactly two seconds later, Mr. Whiney Pants spilled his entire glass. I may have injured myself trying not to laugh.

The other time we shared a table was also on Celebrity. We were seated with two other concierge couples - one quite a bit younger and one our age and a bit...different but nice enough. We all made polite, though somewhat awkward, conversation until one night when the younger couple wasn't there and the husband in the other couple asked us if we would be interested in "swinging". We pretended not to understand and booked specialty dinners for the next two nights.

We've been on four disney cruises, always with the same couple (our friends who had one and then two kids), once with another couple who were mutual friends. Three times we had tables for just our group, not because of a request but because it just worked out that way.
On our second cruise, there were the five of us (DH, me, plus our friends and their then 5 year old son), since we were at an 8-top, we did have three people who sat with us. They were a mom and her two daughters (one young teen, the other about... seven?) and they were very nice but... :sad2: pretty much completely unprepared. First night, we talked about the excursions we were looking forward to and they had no idea that you could plan them in advance. I think it was the third night that was formal night, and our whole party came down fully dressed (long gowns, DH in a suit, friend hubby in a tux) and they were in jeans and t-shirts, which would have been fine if it was a choice but they were all "But.. why is everyone dressed up?" and when we said "for... uh.. formal night?" "How did you find out about that?!?!" They seriously had no information. They weren't aware that the kids club was not at extra charge. We felt kinda bad for them, but how do you plan a whole trip and not even see that info?

On our third cruise, we were the crazy ones, or at least I'm sure our servers thought so. It was three couples plus the two kids, and so we had our own 8-top. BUT the two kids had zero interest in sitting down to dinner and spent every evening at the kids clubs. So we had two dependably empty seats. The six grown ups were all trivia nuts, and we ended up meeting a very nice gay couple who joined our trivia team. They were NOT having a good experience with their tablemates at dinner, so we uh.. kidnapped them. Put them in the kids seats. Called them by the sons names in front of the servers (as a joke) and had a great time with it. One of our servers even got into it and offered to cut their meat for them. It was a really great time!

This May, DH and I are going to be cruising with our DD (3) and for the first time our friends can't go. :worried: We're hoping to get put with interesting people, and hey... if they're not perfect matches, at least we'll have good stories, no?

It will be interesting to see what table mates we get. For our first cruise it was just the 4 of us. Last year we were a huge group with friends.

I debated on calling to request a table just for our family of 5 before our cruise because it was our first cruise and we didn't know what to expect but DH and I talked about it and decided to roll the dice and see what happened. Well we kinda got craps instead of lucky 7. Ha! We were seated at a table for 8 and 30 min after we sat down and had already started apps a family of 3, mom, dad and a little girl our daughters age were seated with us. I said hello to break the ice but none of them even looked at us or said a word. The mom kept complaining that there was nothing on the menu she liked and after just ordering an appetizer she took the daughter and got up and left after sitting there for 15 min. Leaving the husband by himself. He finished his dinner in silence and left. Awkward.

Next night, hoping for something better....again 30 min into our dinner we were thinking maybe they moved, but here they came again, late. Kind of said "hello" the little girl barely spoke at all and the mom kept complaining about the food, apparently they had put in a request to the head waiter because they kept bringing special gluten free rolls and suggesting gluten free items on the menu because she had told the servers they had severe gluten allergies. Every time she wanted to order something it had gluten in it and our server kept telling her so. Come to find out on the last day she tells our head server they didn't really have gluten issues, she just thought it was healthier to eat that way. Aurgggghhh. You could tell the servers were irritated after going thru all that trouble. That's the way it went all 4 nights.

All in all it ended ok, our last night was civil, small talk and kind of getting to know each other, after a lot of effort on my part, but I had high hopes going into the cruise of making friends with our table mates but it wasn't happening this trip:confused3 I think next time We will roll the table mate dice again but if warning signs go up again after the first night I'll request a move. We would have moved the first time, but loved our serves so we stuck it out. Thank goodness our family of 5 has no problems entertainng each other!

I have a feeling that we might end up in someone else's crazy table mate story. :)

On our last cruise, we sat at a table (just me and DW) for 6 with two other couples. Couple A was a wonderful couple! They were actually former WDW CMs who actually met while working in the parks. We hit it off with them right away and had great conversation every night of the cruise.

Couple B was a couple who was only on the cruise because they were part of a large wedding party. There was no more room at the "big" table with the rest of the wedding party so they got stuck with us. This couple didn't care about Disney at all, were only on the cruise for the wedding, were mainly disappointed that there was no casino on board, and pretty much didn't talk much to us for most of the cruise.

After night one, I told DW, "You know we're really going to freak them out on the Halloween day, right?" :)

This was a Halloween cruise, and DW and I do costuming and cosplay as a hobby. So, on the designated Halloween night we showed up to dinner in our Alice and Mad Hatter costumes. Couple A, predictably, loved it! Couple B looked at us like we had just beamed down from the planet Mars.

I'm sure they had plenty of stories to tell their friends about the crazy people on their cruise when they got back home...

Yours is a table I'd love to be at.

We're DragonCon Eternals and costuming veterans. People sometimes look at us at dinner like we have three heads when we show up in our pirate costumes. Especially me in my dirty pirate (filthy, actually) costume. I love to weather stuff. You should see my Clonetrooper armor.

You can come sit at our table ANYTIME. We don't do costuming ourselves (my creativity skills are nil) but we are major geeks.

I am going on my first DC in December and I am now petrified of table mates!!! :guilty:

We are going on our first Disney cruise in September - not sure if I should be excited or terrified after some of these stories ;-)

For all the crazy stories there are good as well.

There is also crazy in a good way. Dh and I cruised with my parents once. We were assigned to a table with 2 other couples. One couple never showed, the other "couple" was an elderly man and his caregiver. He had broken his arm a few days before the cruise so he was on pain killers. One night he went to the restroom and the waiter sent DH to check on him. I have tons of fun stories from dinners on that cruise.

Also it was a mini Goth cruise. On formal night one of the guys wore their girlfriends gown and another wore a kilt.

Remember if things do not work out they will try to work with you.

We had our own table on our first cruise (we have booked a second hooray) But I have to say I was totally turned off by one of the families beside us. My daughter who is 10 was testing her sugar at the table and the Mom at the table beside us rudely speaks loudly enough for us to hear "Oh gross don't look" (to her son) Then complained to her husband loudly enough again for us to hear about how rude we were to not make her test in a bathroom. My poor daughter was completely embarrassed and didn't want to check her sugar anywhere in public the rest of the cruise. I did turn to the mother and calmly explained to her that my daughter did not have to hide nor should she have to test in a bathroom as this is a normal part of her life. I was livid and still get angry thinking about it.

That's horrible!!! Your poor daughter :(
I had gestational diabetes with both pregnancies and would test whenever and wherever it was convenient (as you know you can only test so far ahead of eating so timing is everything). Some people are just born without filters and NEED that damn filter so they don't say ever DAMN word that comes out of their uncouth mouths.
