So, fess up. What's your most bizaar old wives' tale?

In Russia, they believe that if you drink anything below room temperature, you will get a sore throat. Talk about seeing a Coke machine and wanting an icy cold one and getting luke warm coke. Blech!

Anyway, DS is sick with a cold and he told me that he can't have any ice pops and can only drink warm things until he's better so his throat doesn't get worse.

Now, granted, hot tea does sometimes feel better on sick pipes, but having an iced tea won't make you sicker.

When we were asked if we wanted ice in our cokes in Moscow, I almost hugged the waiter. lol

So what are your favorite falacies?

I'm hispanic, and we have an old wives tale that if your baby is being complimented about it's beauty, and the person who is complimenting doesn't touch your child, they will get "el ojo" (the eye) from that person.

It supposedly makes a baby cry A LOT! Almost like if they are sick and you don't know from what.

There is a "cure" for el ojo. But I won't say it..because then you'll REALLY think we're weird!

No swimming 30 min prior to swimming.
Peeing in alleys gives you stys in your eyes.

"If the light of the full moon shines through a window pane on a new baby's face.... the baby will be crazy"

First of all.... is there any such thing as an OLD baby??:p

One of my coworkers truly believes that if you look at yourself a lot in the mirror while you're pregnant, your children will look like you.

Break a Mirror, have 7 years bad luck. I was NOT allowed to go Swimming in the Pool after Lunch, except for 1 hour after. When I went back in I was hungry again. Starve a cold and feed a fever, or feed a cold, starve a fever?

These are my wife's:

If you put a new pair of shoes on a table, they won't fit anymore.

If your palm itches you are going to come into money.

THANK YOU!!!

That explains why so many people wanted to touch Sister Mary Alyssa when she was little!

LOL!

It's just one of those things! I'm sure you experienced it a lot because you live in Texas!

My mom freaked out whenever she saw me raise my arms over my head when I was pregnant. She was sure that raising your arm over your head would get the cord wraped around the baby's neck. To make her feel better I actually asked my dr about it. He laughed :) and said that your arms were in no way connected to the ambilical cord so there's no way it could happen.

CBRorBust- I want to know what the cure is for this el ojo is...you got me curious now.

what about the one "always wear clean underware in case you are in an accident". My friend is a nurse and she said that is the last thing they think about looking at they just strip em and start to try and see what is wrong and get them better:D

if the head of you bed lies to the north you will have bad dreams.
if you spill salt, throw a pinch of it over your LEFT shoulder.
if you see a rocking chair rocking by itself someone will die.
death comes in threes, as does bad things.
your children will be 3 times as bad as you were.

i have a ton of them. i come from a very supersticious family.

I know what you mean Princess Aurora.......my mom told me the same thing about raising my arms too much....so what happened?? The day I went into labor I was hanging curtains and the cord WAS wrapped around the baby's neck. She still has never let me forget that she was right. LOL
(she also told me that if I took a bath when I was pregnant, I would drown the baby........never mind it lives in water.......)
