Crashed during a trade between my daughter & I, now the items are gone?

Something awful happened just a couple moments ago. My daughter was trading some kind of rare items to my character. During the middle of the trade VMK crashed. Now the items are not in my character's inventory nor are they in my daughter's inventory. It's as though they've disappeared entirely. :confused3 I'm perplexed and kind of upset at the moment. What's even more odd is that one of the items was the Mad Hatter Tea Party Pin. My daughter had won two and was giving me one of them (I do the same for her when I'm able to win two items). She'd only put one of the pins in the trade window but both are now gone. What on earth happened?

I've contacted VMK but I'm really anxious about whether or not they'll do anything. We're both a little disheartened that if we have to worry about stuff disappearing while we trade things to each other it's going to take quite a bit of the fun out for us. :sad1: Sometimes I win something, say in a quest, then I like to surprise my daughter by putting it in her inventory before she comes home from school. And she likes to surprise me with putting stuff in my inventory too. But now we're worried about stuff disappearing.

Has anyone else had experience with this problem?

I crash in trades all the time due to trade lag and have never lost anything on either side. I eighter get the stuff or I don't, If I don't it is always still in the inventorie of the other character. Contact is all you can do, But I would recheck the inventory good.

I would just give VMK a while, the items might come back in a couple of hours hopefully!! I really hope you get your items back!

That happened to me a while back...My stuff disappeared and then miraculously re-appeared. I think it took a few log in times though.. don't give up probably just a computer hic-up!

That's good to know. Thanks everyone for the helpful input. Hopefully this is some weird glitch and the items will show up later. We'll keep checking and rechecking and cross our fingers. I hope they show up. It would be rather scary if items start disappearing to the "black hole" the way some of our messages to contact them seem to. :scared1:

Keep your fingers crossed for us! :goodvibes

We checked many times last night and again this morning. The items are not in either inventory. I am beginning to fear they are gone for good. :sad1: I don't look forward to telling my daughter when she comes home from school today. She's not going to be very happy. I'm pretty unhappy myself right now.

I haven't received a response yet from VMK either. I hope I will soon. Since the items have disappeared due to the crash during our trade you'd think they'd be interested in looking into it and making sure it doesn't happen again. Otherwise this is going to add unneeded anxiousness to the trading process, worrying that if it crashes your stuff will be gone for good.

Cabelle1863, what are your's and your daughter's VMK names?

Was the Mad Tea Party pin the only item you were trading? Do you remember what you did before the crash?

My daughter was doing the trading. She had opened two windows on our laptop computer to have us both logged on for our characters to trade with each other, something we'd done many times before with no problems. From what she told me she had opened up the trade window, put in one of her Mad Hatter pins, a pair of gold ears and a pink princess outfit (top, skirt & shoes). Everything was fine until she approved the trade under her character and then tried to approve it under mine. Right after she clicked "approve" for my character ChocolateEmpress she got the "we're sorry VMK has crashed, you have to sign back in again" white screen. She logged back into my character and the items weren't in my inventory. She checked her character KellyJen's inventory and they weren't there either. She panicked and came running to me. I logged on both characters just to make sure but the items weren't there. Then we noticed that her second Mad Hatter pin was missing from her inventory as well.

It is just virtual stuff so I'm sure we'll get over it. Perhaps we'll get lucky at some point and be able to trade or win the items again. Or maybe the items will hopefully show up in one of our inventories soon, though I doubt it. It's not really a big deal in the grand scheme of things. I'm just getting concerned that this sort of glitch could repeat itself and that VMK doesn't seem interested. I keep hoping they'll look into it to make sure it doesn't happen to anyone else. It's a headache I don't want anyone else to have to cope with. :headache:

this happened to me once..i believe the trade was a cat quest pin and whichever host pin was that month...with me and my mule i got the stuff back on the main the morning after. Best of luck to u!

yeah i think you should just try starting vmk up again a couple times. sometimes, things in vmk NEVER load. Like one time, i was on vmk. And the teleporters and chairs were all invisible. Yup, invisible. i kept logging back in, and everything was visible again lol. it was REALLY weird.

vmk has been having a lot of problems lately. I was going to trade credits to a friend for some items and my quest machine is kept in a special room, vmk would not let me in my own room. I rebooted computer and was finally able to get there then when my friend came she could not see the machine in the room. she rebooted and came back and she could see it.
I know how you feel I was really worried about not being able to get into my own room.

I just received a response from VMK staff about an hour ago-

Hello!

Thank you for your concern over another Player's VMK trade.

We can't discuss a Player's account with anyone other than the Player
themself. If your friend is concerned about their trade, suggest to them
that they use Contact Us to share their concern.

:headache: I'm a little surprised and disappointed that they completely missed the fact that this was a trade between my daughter & I who happen to live in the same house and that the trade was being done by logging on the two characters onto the same computer by bringing up two browser windows. So I responded to the message trying to make that clear and that they can indeed discuss this with me. The character my daughter plays was originally ours together until we decided it would be best for us each to have our own. I described the incident in detail; that my daughter logged onto her character, put up a second window to log onto mine, attempted to trade the items from her inventory into mine then my character crashed and now the items do not appear in her inventory nor mine.

Then I received this response-

Thank you for your email.

We have closed your original help request, because we felt that our
last email to you answered your question. If you need more help, please
use the VMK Help Tool again and we will get back to you as soon as we
can.

Do you hear that sound? I'm currently beating my head against the wall out of exasperation. My daughter & I had pretty much decided that the items were gone and we'd just move on. When I saw the message in the inbox I thought there'd be some final resolution to the situation. But I feel like they didn't really even listen, just tossed in a canned response and gave us the brush off.

So I have followed their advice for "If you need more help, please use the VMK Help Tool again". I've sent another message to the "Black Hole" explaining in minute detail what happened and that my daughter & I would like some assistance. I'm going to continue to send this message again to them about once a week for as long as it takes. I'm going to be a squeaky wheel. Because I think it would be courteous for VMK to provide a real reply and not something their computer generated from picking up a couple keywords. Even if their response was something like, "We're sorry. This was an awful glitch that very rarely happens but there's nothing we can do." At least my daughter & I would feel that they actually read our help message with their own eyes. As is stands right now I'm feeling like their "help tool" could stand a major overhaul.

Wow that's very disappointing to see. It sure does sound like they didn't really read your messages. I'm sorry you and your daughter are going through all of this. I sure hope you can get this resolved. I agree with you, if it was me I'd keep sending them messages until they finally genuinely respond to you. Good luck!

I'm sure they were read, just not understood. Remember, most "help desk" places are farmed out to India. That would explain the responses that match the general theme of the help request, just not the details!
