DH has been battling a head cold/sore throat since Thanksgiving. So far I've avoided it.

We leave for Disney on Friday and don't you know I just started to sneeze. And you know that feeling when all of a sudden you swallow and there it is - that lump on one side of your throat?

I don't think my doc is in this afternoon, what can I do FAST??

Suck on a cold eeze lozenge every 2 hours. Take vitamin C and Echinichea (sp). Fight it!!! Good luck!

Lots and lots of water. It's probably just my imagination but when I have that little inkling that something bad is going on inside my body I drink lots of water for a day or two and whatever it is seems to vanish.

Good luck!!

OP, Gargle with 1/2 peroxide and 1/2 warm water. (Don't swallow).

Start upping your vitamin C intake and if you have Airborne, take that!

Hope you're feeling well by the time you leave!

Hot bath every half-hour to hour.. I can't even tell you how many times I have held off something becoming full blown by following this advice from an old-time doctor..

Good luck! :santa:

I just read this recently and I can't remember where. Basically, when you are coming down with something you should take a really hot bath. It raises the body temperature in the early stages of an illness and helps to control it. Not sure if it's true but it cannot hurt.

It's always worked for me in the past.. And here's another oddity.. When I am about to come down with something, I usually know ahead of time because my hands will get a "metallic" smell to them - like I've been handling a bunch of loose change.. Trait has passed down to my DD and DGD as well..:confused3

Hey Snapppyd, we're leaving for Disney on Friday too! I also started feeling icky yesterday (maybe self-induced because of my paranoia over getting sick right before a trip!). I immediately started chugging Airborne and will continue to do so until Friday - it always seems to help when I feel a cold coming on.

Now, if I can just convince myself that the hubby and kids aren't going to suddenly come down with something, too.....;)

Have fun on your trip!

Gotta Get To Disney! :moped:

Zicam here when feel something coming on. It works very well (has zinc)
Always Airborne before any trip anyway.

We are here now. I started to feel "yucky" - those first tell-tale signs of a sore throat on Tuesday of last week - we left on Saturday night. A few days of extra Vit. C (airborne) zinc losenges & Zicam (the one you use as a swab in your nose) nipped it in the bud for me. I couldn't get any extra sleep - lots to do before I left!

Best of luck in getting the beginnings of his cold back to "no cold".

I recently suffered through a bad sinus infection and as I was getting better, someone told me to try olive leaf extract capsules. I got them at a health food store for $15.00, but this past weekend, I saw them at WalMart for about $6.00 a bottle. It helps relieve pressure and congestion and it's a good homeopathic remedy. The place where I bought mine also had a nasal spray to help with the swelling in the sinus cavaties.

Good luck - I hope you feel better soon.

I was wondering when CAnn posted this how it would help, this actually makes a lot of sense.

I find, for some odd reason, if I take a cold medicine like NyQuill early on my colds don't last long.

A friend told us to put Vicks vaporub on the bottom of your feet then wear socks to bed. It's supposed to help congestion. We didn't try it...yet

Cold-Eze or Zycam - but avoid the nasal spray. It can cause a permanent loss of olfactory sense.

It works. Quickly!
