I hear the crane is up at Cindy's Castle to strip the Xmas lights and - here is the kicker - facilitate refurbishment. According to WDWMAGIC, the crane went up yesterday and is scheduled to stick around thru March 14th operating from 11:30PM - 7PM. Yes, you read that correctly - they are only breaking for 4.5 hrs in the evening. What a colossal bummer. Wish they had instead just spent a week or whatever taking down the lights, then brought crane back after Easter for 6 more weeks to do the refurb - lots of winter vacation guests are going to be impacted by this eyesore. Unfortunate.

Yeah, last year the crane was supposed to be done taking down Christmas lights by Feb 11. I waited til the end of my trip to take pictures - needless to say, on our last day which was Feb 15, the crane was still there.......

I don't mean to negate your disappointment over having the crane potentially impact your trip. However, while it would not impact your trip if it came back after Easter for the refurbishment, wouldn't it impact everyone going then just as much? It is not surprising that they will do things to keep the area in good condition when they are in their slowest season. After Easter, I don't believe the crowds get much smaller for awhile.

I'm sorry your disappointed about the crane being in pictures. But all things considers it could be a lot worse?

Fair enough, but I think it could be handled better if they split the 8 weeks of refurb into two phases - the first would be now thru mid-Feb; the second would begin after Easter and finish before Memorial Day. This way, those folks spending either winter vacation/Pres Day or Spring Break (both of which rank as busiest time of yr along with summer and Xmas) at DW will be in the clear. I think that doing all 8 weeks in one shot at the expense of those responsible for accounting for one of your biggest weeks of the year is bad business.

As for the disappointment factor, "all things considered" it stinks, esp for 1st timers to have a hulking eyesore hanging over the most iconic image associated with all of DW. I don't care about the pictures, I care about each time I look up at the castle! But it is what it is and the show must go on. As I said, I think that they should have split up the workload.

it seems odd to me they would leave it up during the princess half, considering the shots at the castle are one of the most coveted. maybe it's been there during past races, but i've never seen it. that's a bummer.
