Cranberry & Pineapple Continued.....Again.

I remember the time we lived in jackets, gloves and hats at WDW because it was so cold, lots of great memories that time!!!!!

Jrsy - Knowing your crew, I am sure you will have a good time no matter what!

Jrsy, hope you're having a great vacation!!!

Rachel is having her birthday party tonight. There will be 15-20 teenage girls here, "hanging out" until about 8 or so then, 2 or 3 will stay the night. After we get rid of the other girls the 4 of us are going to go see Harry Potter around 10 pm or so. I am cooking mexican tonight for dinner. A couple of pans of chicken enchiladas, some tacos, rice, chips and guacamole. Rachel's friend Hope is coming over early to make the guacamole for me. She makes really good guac.

Cristi - How did the party go?

Sounds like Jrsy, Tammy and Alex are having a we trip but they are still having a good time. Tammy said the lines are short, I am sure that is due to the rain. When she sent me the txt they were at Toy Story Mania.

Wet and chilly...and busy after Sunday. It is good that we were able to do so much on Sunday because the crowds rolled in on Monday and kept getting bigger with each day. I'm hoping to get a trip report done and am just waiting for Tammy's approval to post the photos.

Heidi, any good deals on Black Friday? Were you at the 3am opening at Kohl's?

Looking forward to the trip report. Too bad it got crowded for you guys. Of course we were at Kohls for the 3am opening!!! We were waiting in line when it opened, got our stuff quick and headed out quick!

Selena is trying to log on. She sent me a txt yesterday saying she contacted the admin because she can't remember her password and she no longer has access to the email she used when she set up her account.

It would be impossible to remember everything we did in the exact order we did it, but I’ll do my best to give you the important points of the trip at the very least.

Saturday 11/20
Our flight was at 9:45am on Southwest. We’d scored A group boarding passes, so we weren’t worried about getting good seats. We picked up Tammy’s mom around 7:30 or so, since she’d be taking our car (and R2) back to our house, then headed for the airport. The fog was very thick but our flight was still supposed to be on time. R2 got a few sniffs of the airport as we unloaded and said goodbye and Tammy’s mom said he howled as they left us behind.

Check-in went pretty quickly and we still weren’t seeing much in the way of delayed flights, so the fog didn’t appear to be an issue. The security line was pretty short so we were through it quickly and none of us was required to have a full-body scan. I did get a sort-of pat-down just because I had on a heavy sweatshirt, but it had nothing to do with the supposed heightened security.

We grabbed some breakfast from Einstein Bros. and brought it with us to the gate. We had plenty of time to eat before it was time to line up for boarding. Once we were on the plane, we grabbed seats further toward the back because we would be in no rush to disembark in California because check-in at the hotel wasn’t until 4pm. We were also hoping not to be surrounded by small children, but there were so many on the flight that we couldn’t avoid it.

We flew out of the fog as we headed west but the clouds were over the Orange County airport when we arrived there a couple of hours later. It was warmer in California than it had been in Denver, but the rain was coming down pretty hard for the entire drive from the airport to the hotel. We probably reached the Howard Johnson’s on Harbor Blvd. by 12:30pm and were pleasantly surprised that a room was available for us to check into. We were on the first floor with a view of the garden pool, so we were quite happy.

After a short rest, we headed out the door to have lunch at a place nearby called Momma Cozza’s. Unfortunately, we misjudged the distance a bit, so the walk there took longer than we expected and we did get rained on for part of the walk. We were very glad when we finally arrived. We’d learned about the restaurant on Diners, Drive-ins and Dives. It was a family-owned Italian place and the dishes we saw featured on the show lured us in. Tammy and I both had pasta with Domery sauce, which was named after a regular who asked for Italian sausage, baby clams and garlic to be added to their tomato sauce. It was outstanding! Alex devoured a slab of lasagna then even ordered chocolate chip cheesecake.

After a very satisfying meal, we took a cab to Downtown Disney, which cost $10 plus tip. We’d been considering also going to In-n-Out Burger on this trip, which was around the corner from Momma Cozza’s, but didn’t want to walk again and couldn’t justify adding about $25 in travel costs for fast food burgers. We spent a fair amount of time wandering through World of Disney and each picked a pair of ears to buy: Alex’s looked like a Mickey ice cream bar, mine were Haunted Mansion ears and Tammy got a pair that commemorates the 55th anniversary of Disneyland. We looked at a lot of other stuff but decided not to buy all of our souvenirs on the day of our arrival.

I had a voucher for our park hoppers that had to be redeemed at a ticket booth, so we stopped there next and picked up our 4-day hoppers. The CM working the booth asked if we were celebrating anything so I said “playing hooky from work for three days to go to Disneyland.” She was amused enough by that to give us each an “I’m Celebrating” button, which we all wore on our first day in the parks.

We really didn’t have much of a plan for Saturday night but figured we’d be tired from being up early to travel and would want to get to bed early since Sunday was a Magic Morning. We had dinner at Millie’s but it was still too cool for swimming so we hung around the room, champing at the bit to get to the parks.

Sunday 11/21

Disneyland was opening at 7am on Sunday for Magic Morning and Mimi’s didn’t open until 7am, so we ended up going to McDonald’s for breakfast. As we were sitting there eating, it started pouring rain. We headed back over to the hotel and donned our ponchos, then made it over to Disneyland just after 7am. We were pleased, but not really surprised, that there was hardly anyone in the park. We rode Space Mountain twice, back-to-back, then took a ride on Buzz and decided that, since everything in Fantasyland was open, we’d ride a few rides we never had before. The line for Peter Pan was typically long, so we rode Snow White’s Scary Adventure and Pinocchio’s Daring Journey. Both were walk-ons but neither of them was all that impressive to us. By that time, Magic Morning was already over, so we headed for New Orleans Square by way of Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. The rain had pretty much let up by that point, so I used my poncho on BTMRR to cover the wet seat, but otherwise didn’t have to put it back on again.

In New Orleans Square and Critter Country, Jungle Cruise, Pirates, Haunted Mansion, Indy, Splash Mountain and The Many Adventures of Winnie-the-Pooh were all walk-ons, so we got in a lot of rides in a short amount of time. Since we’d done so well with riding so many rides, we decided to head over to California Adventure and could see from the esplanade some of the construction that was ongoing, including the re-theming just inside the entrance on what would become Buena Vista Street, the fountain with what Alex called the world’s largest hubcap and, in the distance, the framework for the Cadillac Mountain Range in CarsLand.

We started on Soarin’, which was another short wait, then headed for Paradise Pier. As we passed the FastPass distribution for World of Color, there was no line, so we stopped and picked some up. We got the red zone for the first showing, which meant that they were nearing the end of the FPs for that show and would soon start handing them out for the second show that night. When we reached the World of Color viewing area, which had been under construction the last time we’d been at Disneyland, we were pleased to see that Paradise Bay was full of water because we’d never seen it that way on either of our previous trips. Also, by that point, the clouds were breaking up and, although it was still cool, we started to get more and more sun.

We rode Toy Story Midway Mania, which has been updated to include characters from Toy Story 3, and California Screamin’ before heading over toward Tower of Terror and Mike & Sully to the Rescue. The construction had us kind of going in circles as we tried to figure out how to get around some of it. We found Mike & Sully okay, but the area right near where Aladdin is shown was fenced off so we couldn’t figure out how to get to Tower of Terror. It turns out that a new walkway had been installed from A Bug’s Land to Tower of Terror, so we had to backtrack to get to it. After a couple of rides on it, we decided to take a lunch break.

Since the Disneyland would be open until midnight for the entire week, we felt more compelled to take afternoon breaks so we’d have enough energy to make it later into the night. We had lunch at California Pizza Kitchen at the Anaheim Garden Walk, stopped at a convenience store and ColdStone for some provisions then went back to the hotel to put our feet up for a while. It was sunny but still too cool, in our opinion at least, to use the pools.

After a rest and some coffee made in the Keurig coffee maker in our room, we were on our way back to Disneyland with jackets and sweatshirts. We got to ride the Matterhorn, which we’d avoided earlier due to the rain, then hit it’s a small world, Autopia and the Monorail before dragging Tammy onto Finding Nemo, which isn’t one of her favorite attractions. We went back over to California Adventure prior to our World of Color show time and entered the viewing area about 30 minutes prior to the start of the show. We found a good spot up against a railing which meant that no one could come at the last minute and stand in front of us. The one criticism I’d have of the show is that, after walking all day in the parks, it is no treat to then stand for the duration of the show.

The show itself was pretty fascinating. It wasn’t just lights and water, but projections on the water “screens” and music and dialogue and synchronization with the lights on Mickey’s Fun Wheel and even big bursts of flame that we could feel the heat from even as far back as we were. After World of Color, we worked our way back to Tower of Terror and Mike & Sully then went back to Disneyland for a couple more hours of rides before the midnight closing. By the time we made it back to the hotel, we were all in agreement that, if we’d just had that one day, we’d have felt that we did as much as we possibly could have. That definitely ended up being a good thing given what was to come over the next three days.

That is great news they finally put a walkway from Bug's Land to ToT. I hated always having to walk around and back track to ToT since we rode that a lot as well as California Screamin! I really want to see the World of Color show, sounds great. How was Space Mountain? That is Chris's ultimate favorite ride at DLR! Mine is Indy and Haunted Mansion. I want to ride on Toy Story Mania to see the new additions, such a fun ride! Great TR! Makes me want to go back.

Oh man Jrsy. I wish I didn't see your pictures and read your report. It really makes me want to get back to Disneyland. I think the rain wasn't the best but it sure helped you in the long run. We are like you and don't avoid the park just because of rain!

Selena, if you are reading this I hope you can get on SOON. Miss you.

I'm expecting to see Ted any day now since I saw Chris on Wednesday night and saw Brad on the train on Friday after work.

Dang, I have only seen my mom from here....what about me, lol!!!!

I'm planning to see you and Chris on Friday. Are the girls coming, too? (No, I don't mean your b**bs; I know they will be coming with you.)
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA. LMAO!!!! :lmao: :rotfl: Not sure if the girls are coming or not, they haven't asked yet. I think you are stuck with just Chris and I. We will close down the party again! :thumbsup2 :goodvibes

I already told Chris that we are OK with that as long as that new puppy can survive your absence.

As long as our neighbor is available to let her out, we are good! Our neighbor comes over every few days to get her Lilly fix so I will see if she will be home on Friday to let her out.
