The recipe calls for one bread bowl to be refilled, but the recipe actually makes enough for two bread bowls. You can get a two-pack of bread bowls at Sam's Club. Also, you don't HAVE to use a stand mixer; regular one and a mixing bowl work fine.
Southwestern Boule Dip
Two 8-ounce packages cream cheese, at room temperature
1 cup sour cream
2 cups salsa (mild or hot)
2 cups grated cheddar cheese
1 16ounce boule (round loaf of bread)
Large bag of tortilla chips
Jalapenos or other hot peppers (optional)
Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
Cut off a 1-inch top from boule loaf, and set aside. Hollow out the remainder of the loaf to make a bowl, removing excess bread but leaving the crust and about an inch of the interior all around.
Place cream cheese, sour cream and salsa in the bowl of a standing mixer. Combine on medium speed. Remove bowl from mixer and stir in cheddar cheese.
Add mixture to bread bowl. Replace bread top. Completely wrap bread with aluminum foil. Place directly on oven rack and bake for 1½ hours.
Remove bread from oven and peel off aluminum foil. Remove bread top. Serve the bread bowl immediately with tortilla chips. Garnish serving platter with jalapenos or other peppers.
Any extra cheese/salsa mixture can be heated in microwave or regular oven, and used to replenish the boule bowl.
