Phew, I was worried that this thread took a nasty turn!

Oh my Jsme, hurricane duty? I will send pixie dust your way that your cruise will not be affected! But cruising with you sounds wonderful, too! I love cruising with DISers.

Jsme ~ You are TOO funny!!! :rotfl2: :rotfl2: By any chance, can you inform me on how to make that raspberry martini? Sounds fabulous!! :drinking1 We are going on the Feb Magic cruise and I am already preparing to bring our own drinks. Your Raspberry Tini was not on my list though and sure sounds like it would be a great drink to have. :p I bought my older kids (each) a collapsible cooler on wheels so they can carry onboard what they need for themselves and so I can take on what I need in my pwn cooler. I just cannot wait! Forward the recipe if you can. I am sure there are more out there that would love to try it! Karen :cool1:

Yes - PLEASE post the rasberry martini recipe! Sounds fabulous.

The drink is called a Summer Solstice and the receipe is coutesy of New York City's Bar 89 way of Redbook (not Family Circle).

Summer Solstice
2 1/2 oz raspberry vodka
1 oz Cointreau (or can sub Triple Sec)
1 oz Rose's Lime juice
1/2 oz cranberry juice
1/2 oz orange juice

Combine ingredients, shake bigorously, and strain into a chilled martini glass. Float both an orange slice and a maraschimo cherry to garnish.

Sounds more like a comso style martini.

Looks like I better try this one out!!! No sense in waiting until the cruise!! :rotfl: I am assuming the Lime juice will have to be refrigerated after opening. I wonder if we could also use those little plastic limes. They would be alot smaller and unbreakable. Anyway, thanks for the recipe!!! Sounds like a drink even my DH would like to try!! :cool1: :cool1: Karen

We just got off the ship yesterday. We did the martini tasting and enjoyed it! It fills up so get your tickets early. It was $15 per person. I think it was on Sunday.

Do they do the Martini tasting every cruise? I am assuming you get your tickets when you get there and are signing up for everything... am I correct? Do you get these at Guest Services? How many different types do you taste? What do you wear? Sounds like fun though!!!

Yes please tell us more about the martini tasting. I love them. I have read on another thread about this but it is new since last year's cruise. Or at least I did not see it being offered.

Here is another recipe in the Redbook I found to look good

Ultimate Blue Frozen Margartia

2 oz lime jucie
1 oz blue caracao
3 oz tequilla
1 cup of ice

pour ingredients into a blender (this was in a ad so I omited the Oster) over ice, in orderlisted. Blend on high for a few seconds. Take a lime wedge and run it over the edges of the margartia glasses. Place the wetted glass rims into coarse salr. Pour the margartia into the slated glasses and serve.

Watching this thread with interest as I plan to take Malibu/Parrot Bay on my cruise in Sept for "boat drinks". I was planning on taking some tropical flavored crystal lights for mixer and adding a splash of Sprite. Has anyone tried the new low-cal Bacardi rums? They have a coconut one, but I haven't tried it. I can't really figure out what it is exactly from the magazine ads I've seen and just wondered if anyone had tried?

The martini tasting will be listed in your Navigator. You "reserve your place" at Guest Services. Ours was Sunday at 4:15pm. Again, it is $15 per person. We went to Guest Services around 11a.m. and it was already full. They advised us to show up at Sessions in case someone didn't show. I can't imagine not showing up after I've paid, but I guess some people get involved and do forget. Anyway, we got a spot. We knew a couple that already had tickets and it was nice to get to enjoy it with them. We tried 5 martini's - cute little martini glasses. Three were made with vodka and 2 with gin. I really liked the 3 with vodka, one gin one was o.k., the typical dirty martini was so so for me (the olive was the best part). The dress was casual - whatever you were running around in. I would imagine no swimsuits, but shorts were fine.

We also did the tequilla tasting. It was Friday, same price. We didn't like it as much. The martini thing is newer to us so it was of more interest. We tasted 3 tequillas (basically the same taste just a difference in smoothness), a regular margarita and a strawberry margarita. F.Y.I. on our cruise the final bingo session ran into the tequilla tasting time so some people were late. They still got all their tastes - just at one time :)

We couldn't afford to do the beer and the wine tasting too :goodvibes I imagine it was nice but I didn't hear any comments about it.

I ordered cranberry juice the last morning for breakfast. I don't know if they had it every morning or if you could get it from roomservice.

Enjoy!

I did not know about the low carb rum. Oh I am interested.

What a great idea. Powdered drinks. Guess I will have to go looking for pineapple and cranberry. Bet you can't find those.

Well, I am excited!!!!!! This is the site to be on! Hahaha! My DH is not a big drinker, but he seems to like the vodka drinks when he DOES drink. He likes the Smirnoff drinks and they are similar to the Barcardi drinks. We tried the low carb (I do not think they were low cal because I am watching my carbs and thought "Oh Good!!! Low carb!!!") I think I liked them and my daughter liked them to. We both thought "Not bad for low carb". I also am preparing to bring the Crystal Lite packets. I have informed my kids that they will be great stocking stuffers for me and that will be just around the corner from the cruise. I wanted to find out a little about that shaker, sounds like a nifty accessory. I wonder how small it is... my "personal" accessories are adding up!!! :rotfl: Just cannot wait :cool1:

OK, I found the ad in Glamour. It is called Bacardi Island Breeze and it's low cal -- 1/2 the calories (48 vs. 96), it says. Comes in Coconut, Key lime and Wild Berry flavors. I wonder if it's less alcohol -- 18% or 36 proof it says. I just don't know what regular booze has. Anyway, it sounds interesting and I like the low cal bit. Would go nicely with the crystal light. Do you bring your own glasses from home or what do you do? In need of ideas.

OK I guess I am lost. I had the low carb and they didn't have names like that so I will just have to try THESE out too!!! :cool1: :cool1: Come to think of it, I have tried the Wild Berry, so I must be thinking of a totally different drink. Maybe Bacardi Triple Black?? I don't know, but now I am curious. I do know the Smirnoffs come in Black Cherry, Apple, Watermelon and ...Raspberry I htink. They are very good too. You should try those before you go. I will have to check out the ones you suggested. As far as glasses, that is a good question. I wonder if we bought a bar drink if we can keep our glass until the end of the cruise. Do you know if that is an option? It would be one more thing to have to worry about if we had to pack glasses. I do prefer to drink out of glasses though, opposed to plastic, but then again, after a few... I am sure it won't matter what the drink is sitting in! Hahaha :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

OHHHH--do you think it is a pre-mixed drink? I thought it was suppossed to be used in drinks like you would rum, but now I'm thinking it's pre-mixed. Hmmm. I was thinking I'd just go to the drink station get cups from there. Easier to toss than wash. Actually last year I drank very little -- a few beers and the drink of the day a few times. DH doesn't drink. But he suggested that I take Parrot Bay or something this year. It is kind of a hassle, but would be nice to make drinks in the cabin while getting ready for dinner.

It's funny because I swore I wasn't going to spend all my time drinking (especially if I had to buy the drinks...). I did start getting in the carribbean mood however, with the Rum and the fruit drinks. So, I am thinking I will be prepared... I will bring some Rum and if I want to make a few... I can. I will buy the drink of the day so I can try it out, and I am even thinking of trying those nice after dinner drinks each night... but as far as buying drinks all day, that is not happening. The drinks add up and they are not cheap. So, I have all areas covered. It will be fun.

Whenever we opt to have breakfast in the dining room I always ask for cranberry juice, so they definately have it onboard....whether they keep some stocked up by the Deck 9 buffet is a guess...but since many drinks are made with cranberry juice, I could not imagine not having any around Deck 9. It may take a CM to run to one of the bars to get some for you. It is definately not one of the options at the deck 9 drink station, nor is Pineapple juice.
