cramming into disney hotels --possible?

Call me a cheapskate but in the past my family has opted to rent just one hotel room and just squeezed in (2 adults, 5 kids, 3 who are fairly small) since we don't spend a lot of time in our room except for toiletries and sleep.
Some of the kids even volunteer to "camp out" on the floor in sleeping bags and pillows and pads we bring.
In checking the Disneyland Hotel they keep pressuring me to rent a suite or two rooms. But if we're willing to be a little uncomfortable (by some people's standards, not ours) why can't we just rent one room?
Is there some sort of rule? Something I'm missing here. Or are they just trying to make more money off us?

It's an occupancy rule that all Disney hotels have (and most non-Disney hotels for that matter). It's not a matter of greed, it's a matter of safety and having enough room and bedding for everyone.

You might want to check some of the offsite suite hotels for less expensive accommodations for your family. Good luck!

I would think that at DL it would be more economical and less stressful to rent a room at a suite type hotel. You would have more space and wouldn't worry about going over the occupancy limits. Well, if there are 7 of you, there might be a 6 person limit, but at least you'd only be exceeding the limit by 1 person, which may not be against the occupancy rules if the youngest is still in a crib. Or you could get adjoining rooms at a budget hotel.

We've stayed in 1 room with our family of 6 at WDW (legal since there was a daybed and our youngest is under 3yo) and found that we had to schedule bathroom time. We'd have our boys bathe in the evening and the rest of us in the morning. It worked ok, but it's been nice when we've had adjoining rooms since there would be 2 bathrooms. We have a teenage daughter, so that extra bathroom was very nice!

well, yes, obviously I know about off site hotels. And it's not as if we haven't all stayed in one room just fine. It truly is not a problem for us, and the pros far outweigh the cons. I am still not convinced that it is a safety or comfort issue and continue to think it's another way to make a buck. I am also not convinced that other folks don't do this with some frequency. I guess I still don't see what's wrong with it.

you're not kidding. I checked out the debate board, found an old thread on just this subject. It's been raging on for months. I never knew there were so many saints walking among us.

Honestly, I would bet that the main reason they have these occupancy rules is to make more money by renting more rooms. Duh. However, you can choose to cram as many people in your room as you want to. Everyone has a different opinion as to whether this is the right thing to do and only you have to live with your decision, as minor as what it may be. If you decide to only get one room I would just quietly do that and not advertise it at check-in or you may be forced into two rooms. Hotels very often do not think of larger families when designing rooms, but I knew this, of course, before having my 4 kids, so I can't complain too much. And most days I wouldn't trade them in... Also, if I were to get 2 rooms for my family I wouldn't want to be considered a saint, just like I wouldn't think that you were a terrible person if you only rented one room.

we are a 6 person family, and we have crammed into hotel rooms. I think it is ok. I have never stayed on site at DLR, so I don't know how difficult it may be, but I have never had problems elsewhere. Just this last Oct. we stayed at the Westcoast Anaheim Hotel, and had no problems!
