Craigslist Interest Emails

I have a stroller listed on our local CL. I've gotten several emails from people who are interested, but a few have been these vague, cryptic messages and I don't know what to make of them.

One just said "have it still?" with no mention of the item specifically and no questions or anything.

The other was "i saw what you post on craig's list and i am interested in it, please
email me your final price and some pictures if you have." (There are pics on the listing) :confused3

So are they spam? Is it people trying to get you to respond so they have your email address or what? I don't get it, but CL kinda creeps me out anyway!

Thanks!

Spam. Someone definitely interested will reference your item. You can tell which are real. I wouldn't bother responding to ones that are so vague.

Major spam. Wait until you get the one that says they would like it shipped overseas to them and they will send you a check to cover the cost of the stroller and shipping. Of course they then accidentally write the wrong amount on the check and it is way over the price you agreed on, but tell you to please go ahead and deposit it in your account and send them the extra back, and keep a little extra for your time and trouble.

Honestly if you even have to ask, it makes me think you should prob avoid Craiglist. It is full of sceezoids and creeps. For your safety do not have anyone come to your home to see the item, meet them someplace public. Have someone with you.

CL is not a safe place to do business anymore. I used to have a lot of luck buying and selling, but in the last year or so it has been so much hassle and creeps. Even if you do sell it, it isnt worth all the time it took to meet up with people to have them offer you 20% of your asking price.

Not sure how you meant it, but that sounds a little condescending. It would be one thing if I was asking if it was a good idea to ship the stroller to Ukraine for 3 times it's value and the buyer was going to wire me the money. I've sold enough on CL to get the "normal" interest emails as well as the "are you short on money" scams, but I was curious to know why people take the time to send emails like "still available?" to pull off some big scam. Maybe if you take the bait, they work on you some more...I don't know, I was just wondering what the deal was, but I'll just be sure to be careful who I respond to.

Thanks for the replies!

Ignore the spam, entertain the serious ones.:thumbsup2

A serious one will give you a price right away, like will you take "X", unless of course you stated "X Firm".

We use CL all the time. I have met many people like myself who buy and sell and they are not scammers or sleezoids.:rolleyes1

We have 2 cars on there right now.

I list on CL all the time, and get these also all the time. I just bounce them back and never mind them! You can tell when you have a legit emailer.
