Craigslist - I am SO DISAPPOINTED!!!

So I thought I'd finally take the Craigslist plunge and list my very first item. Here I am little Miss Honest with this great item - a Dell Mini 9 laptop that I had bought for my DD for Christmas thinking her laptop was broken when it wasn't. Needless to say, it is about 8 months later and she hasn't used it for more than 2 hours. I'm thinking to myself what a great item to put on Craigslist.

I can't believe these scamers responding!Thank God I'm educated enough to know not to fall for these people.

One person wanted to buy it...then writes back and will offer me $150 more to ship it to her husband over seas do they really think I'm that stupid?

I specifically said "CASH ONLY" and another person said he is out of state but wants to give me a certified check and his movers will pick it up

This whole experience really rots I thought I was posting a great item for someone and all I get is these scamers.

Any advise on how to deal with Craigslist?

I normally just delete the emails I don't like. Don't even respond. I always find a buyer that is the real deal.

You ignore the scammers. Eventually you will get a legit offer.

We use Craigslist to sell everything now. Just finally sold a trailer for 4200.

No, they are trying to scam people out of money. Of course it is worth it. You just ignore them.

I recommend you give them the address of Wrigley Field to have them send the check. However, I bet you will find a buyer if your price is reasonable. We buy and sell all sorts of stuff and have never had a problem with a legitimate, local transaction.

The weird part is this one person won't stop...keeps writing back telling me to give her my paypal address? She/he has TONS of typo's in her correspondence and her name is Mavis Beacon - isn't that a typing tutor

You will get tons of spam no matter what you advertise. You just have to delete them and move on. I have bought and sold many things through craigslist. You will get legimate emails, too.

Craiglist and Ebay invite all kinds of scammers and charlatans, and I have no interest in wading through it in hopes of making an honest transaction. No thanks.

Sorry about the troubles you're having. We just made our first sale on Craig's List and it worked out great for us. We sold a Palm Pilot, cash only and we met the person who bought it in a public place, I don't want anyone coming to my home. Dh has a couple more things listed so we will see how it goes the second time around.

I too just took the plunge into craigslist, but as a buyer. DD is old enough for slides and other big toys and I thought it would be a great place to buy some Little Tikes items. I found 3 great deals and will continue to use craigslist for other items in the future. I was amazed though at the # of people who did not update ads after they had sold their items. Seemed such a waste of my and their time to be e-mailing about items that were no longer available when they could have simply updated their ad to say "SOLD".

Keep trying OP - you'll find the right buyer soon!

Good luck on selling your item, it sucks that people scam other people like that.

I had a horrible experience too. Many of my scams started with "is the item still available?" so I answered that and was hit with the form letter scam. None of my stuff sold and I though compared to other Craigslist prices I was priced reasonably.

I ended up selling my furniture for next to nothing at a garage sale. Still mad I got bullied into such a pathetic amount.

Same here.. My son-in-law must be awfully good at this though - because he doesn't get the scammers.. Maybe it's the way he words things..

Given a choice, we would rather deal with CL scammers than eBay scammers.. That can get very, very complicated and even with "legit" buyers, they can make your life heck; have your money held up by Paypal; have an impact on your future sales; etc..

We converted to CL quite some time ago and cash on the line is the only way to go!

Truthfully, anything that deals with human beings and MONEY will have issues, it's the nature of the beast.

I make a GOOD living on eBay and CL, and just like B&M stores have their thieves and return artists, I have my lowlives...

Add a flag counter on your CL listinghttp://s03.flagcounter.com/more/M4Aw , you'll see how many scammers are checking your ad. Anything over about $75 gets their attention. As the PPs said over and over, ignore them.

I've found my home, all of my furniture and just about everything in my home on CL and have met some of the most WONDERFUL people selling or buying. There are WAY more nice people than idiots... just like at the CB and RL!

You have to make a slight change everytime. Title, price, text, etc....get creative.
