hi i have never sold on craigslist and need some advice. i found a third pair of shoes in practically new condition that i want to unload. is $15 a pair reasonable? each would have sold for 40-80. i was thinking about taking a group offer as well since they are all the same size. also if i post these as a cash, to pickup meet me in a local parking lot will i be able to sell in two days? (im on vaca at my mothers and will be back home in three days).

As far as knowing how long it it will take you, there is NO way to predict. I've had a large list of stuff on Craigslist, and some things sold within minutes -- really -- of going up on line. Things I thought nobody would buy. And other things that I though would go quick are about to be posted for the fourth time. So don't make any plans that way.

And shoes -- I personally wouldn't buy shoes from Craigslist. Or ebay, for that matter. Price them what you think is fair -- I guess $15 sounds reasonable -- but be prepared to either hold on to them or take less.

list them and try. If they don't sell before you leave, you can always delete your posting.

State cash in your listing. State where you are willing to meet.

Last year I sold a pair of Keen toddler shoes on craigslist within a day for $20.

The funny thing about this transaction was all the communication was via email, I never met the person, just dropped off the shoes at her workplace and she had the receptionist give me $20. Usually people want to look at what they're buying. But she was happy and so was I.

You never can tell what will happen with craigslist.

True, you can never tell with Craislist. I have had pretty good experiences selling kids shoes and clothing on Craigslist. I just keep a post up almost all the time and add my kids' shoes as they are outgrown. I have had brand new pairs that have never sold (higher end brand for kids - Umi and Elefanten). They are priced about 50% off what they would cost new. The gently used stuff seems to go for about 75% off what it would cost new. For instance, I sold a pair of Keds white sandals for $5 (worn a couple of times) but have a higher end brand (Elefanten) that are well worn priced at $6 (about 85% off what they would be new) and they are scheduled to be sold tomorrow. The shoes pretty much only sell in season. Not sure about adult shoes though. Never tried to buy or sell them on Craigslist. Since I can get brand new adult shoes about 75% off at the end of the season, I would pay less than that for used shoes.

Some additional tips if you haven't used craigslist yet:

Pictures are a huge part of craigslist. If there's no pic, I'm not looking at the ad so I assume the same for any buyer I'm trying to reach. I set the camera to take 2MP size photos, because any larger jpg file takes forever to upload or sometimes doesn't load at all.

I second the recommendation to ask for payment in cash.

I put in my ads "If you're interested, please respond with a phone number that I can reach you at." That way, I can tell if they're serious about finding out more.

I also sell on eBay sometimes, but that's mostly for items that can fetch a higher price on eBay vs. local population because after all the eBay fees, you can lop 12-18% (depending on auction vs. BIN, paypal fees, category you're listing in) off your asking price.

Good luck!

thanks for the advice! :goodvibes they are actually going to be in season soon as two pairs are open toe/sandals. we may be having a garage sale so i have decided after not being able to locate my camera that i will try to sell them there, if not there then craigslist when i find that darn camera. im afraid someone will try to nickle and dime me at a garage sale but i guess it will be trial and error.
