Craigslist for WBC? Tell me your experience

I found a deal on Craigslist for WBC that is significantly cheaper than any other site. Has anyone used Craigslist to rent at WBC? Has anyone had a negative experience using Craigslist? If so, does Craigslist have any sort of purchase protection plan? Thanks!

No protection plan of any sort.

That seems a bit dodgy. I would not take the bait. I found an enticing price on VRBO for WBC. About $150/night for a 2 bedroom, which is significantly cheaper than some of the other listings. Property has 70+ reviews and a close to full rental calendar (just happened to be open the week I am looking). It does seem professional and legit from the VRBO posting. But, when I googled the name of his vacation rental agency he has his VRBO page listed under, nothing was coming up on google. I couldn't find it anywhere. When I emailed about getting some references, he replied telling me why he is so much cheaper than some of the other rental outlets but did not give me any references. I really wanted to book, but felt uncomfortable typing my card information into VRBO without a rental agreement. I would rather pay a higher rate and know when we show up in Florida, we won't be sleeping in our van down by the river!

Many people do rent on Craigslist, but establishing the credibility of the person you are renting from is the challenge. This goes both ways, of course, as the person renting also has to watch out for scams.

Tugbbs has a lot of advice about renting here:

You should be able to see the property reviewed directly on VRBO.

Thanks. I did see reviews. I have just heard horror stories of fake VRBO pages where people review their own properties. I know it sounds a bit out there, but I am so nervous about it now. Whenever I see a great price, I immediately question it!

Though that might happen... it still has to better than Craigslist.
