Cracker Barrel adds Impossible meatless sausage - some customers go apoplectic

I would agree except that others have confirmed that it wasn't a choice added. It was a choice that replaced another choice such that if I am on a travel trip as that is part of us traveling, we always go to Cracker Barrel for breakfast, and I'm expecting to get the sausage I always get on these special outings, it would tick me off if it was replaced by something like this, I have no other way to describe it, I've tried a bite and you can taste it's all it is, chemical concoction.

For me personally, it doesn't affect me at all I think because I would never get turkey sausage. It would be regular pork sausage, not something anyone has mentioned as of yet. Only specifically the turkey sausage.
I looked at the menu at one in my area. Their breakfast meats are bacon, Impossible sausage (patty), and spicy chicken sausage (links).

Thing about this Impossible Brand is that it's not really more healthy than eating real meat. Sure, it's plant-based, but it tends to be higher in cholesterol, sodium and fat. It also has contains more protein, but most of us don't really need more protein. I just googled sausage vs. Impossible Sausage patties, and it's true of these products -- not by a small margin either.

Best piece of advice I've ever read about nutrition: Read the back of the package, not the front.

It has no cholesterol which makes sense since only animal sources can have cholesterol. But it's a massive saturated fat bomb.

And one of its ingredients is most commonly used as a laxative (methylcellulose).

They might as well deep fry it in lard for good measure, but then it wouldn’t be vegan.

Though it's debatable whether most of these meat substitutes are actually any healthier than meat.

They aren't. Meat isn't inherently unhealthy. Ultra processed meat and the meat from poorly raised animals is unhealthy but meat as a category can be included in a healthy diet. Personally I think it should be included in a healthy diet at some level (even if it is just fish) but I don't feel like getting into that debate.

These meat substitutes are ultra processed and full of chemicals. I either eat meat or actual vegetables, not something processed down to chemical components of real food with some vegetable oil and binders added. Vegetarian and vegan, as a category, don't by themselves make an option healthier.

8 grams of saturated fat in a standard 4 ounce serving. Their supposed serving size is 2 ounce. Also 740 on the Sodium.

I hate it when I see these puny serving sizes just to make something not look nearly as bad as it is.

^^ I agree and the trendy term 'plant based' is mostly used as a marketing gimmick. Potato chips are also 'plant based' and I have yet to see anyone consider them a healthy food.
Perish the thought. Potato Chips are one of the 4 basic food groups.
1. Potato Chips and bagged or boxed snacks.
2. Candy, Cake, and Ice Cream.
3. Fried Foods
4. Pizza.

It's not Vegan anyway because one of it's ingredients was tested on animals. Don't shoot the messenger. I didn't make, nor do I follow vegan rules. I'm just your friendly neighborhood omnivore.

Dang, no real sausage choice. Lucky for me bacon is my choice. When I find out they are selling something as bacon that isn't bacon, I'll stop going for my travel breakfast.

So is the asparagus and broccoli in my garden. Both plant based :rotfl2:

Vegans and vegetarians tend to eat healthier b/c their self-imposed limits on ingredients carry over to limiting a LOT of processed food and junk food, not b/c they are avoiding low-processed meat and fish.

I know my food allergies led me to the same thing - when you can't have dairy (and tree nuts), you'd be amazed how many highly processed, highly imflammatory foods you can't eat anymore...and how you do trade down to much more fresh foods (fruit/veg/meats/fish) and very few processed foods in your diet. And then you don't eat as much either b/c there's only so much of those fresh things you want every day. You can binge Doritos or ice cream, but you don't tend to binge apples...

WOW - no pork sausage? That surprises me.

My gang eats turkey sausage anyway so they'd be fine - and I love my bacon. 🥓🥓

They aren't really. They should be an occasional treat, just like for non-vegetarians. A cheeseburger should probably not be eaten daily. I do think it is healthier for the environment in the long run.

I should also add that this is will be a nice change for my friend who has Alpha Gal.
I have Alpha Gal allergy and more options is always a good thing in my book. Unfortunately, I also have a soy ans pea protein intolerance so those meat substitutes make me sick.

This is all part of a large segments identity. They feel offended by just about anything, even if it effects them in no way….

Unfortunatly , they vote and are making many laws regarding things that they have nothing to do with…..

Just cause they do not like it themselves, so no one can like it either.

Though true, that is not the narrative and the narrative is what everyone talks about either for or against. It is constantly said that meat is bad, eating vegetarian is good (or whichever it is, I don't know which is not eating meat for health/nutrition and which is not eating for ethical reasons.)
