My mom gave me a pound of crab meat yesterday and I'm not sure what I want to use it for. Anyone have any good recipes for crab meat?

Do you want to eat it in a dip, crabcakes, stuffed mushrooms, soup? What do you want to eat?

I was thinking either crabcakes or a hot dip. Definitely not soup, I ruined a pound of crabmeat before when trying to make soup-big failure.

ETA: We LOVE LOVE LOVE Old Bay. So any recipe with Old Bay in it is a winner with us!

Tagging along with this one. I have ruined two pounds of crabmeat making dips that were not good.

I always follow the crabcake receipe on the back of the Old Bay Seasoning packet. I love them broiled

zataran has a great crabcake mix. it's realy easy and very good. ds who would never eat crab on a bet wolfed these down because we referred to them as "sponge bob crabby patties" :goodvibes

I too use the recipe on the back of the Old Bay can. What kind of crabmeat is it? Lump, backfin, regular, claw? That matters too.

I use an Emeril recipe that can probably be found on food tv's website. You can substitute old bay for his essence. I have in the past, but prefer them spicy.

If you can't find it on there, PM me. We'll be having crabcakes tomorrow night. I bought it for New Years and didn't make them yet.

It's lump crab meat.

Oh yum!! I love lump. I just made a delicious crab dip for NYE with lump. Lump also makes fantastic crabcakes. If you have Old Bay then just follow the direction on it for crabcakes. The only thing I do differently then that is I do not trim crusts off bread and soak in milk. I just add a bit of milk to the other stuff and crumble up a whole slice into the mix. You will want to mix all ingredients EXCEPT the crab up first. Then add the crab at the very end and toss lightly to mix it into the other stuff. That way the lumps don't fall apart too much. I also broil mine.

Sounds great. If I may ask-what was your dip recipe?

Well I’m glad I’m not the only one with the crab meat problems! I just made crab dip over the holidays and it was terrible. I had been waiting for years to use this recipe (I had loved it at a party and asked the hostess for the recipe.) Anyway, it looked so gross to me that I didn’t even try it, and hardly anyone ate it (DH didn’t even like it, and he’ll eat anything!). I have no idea what I did wrong. Then I had leftover crabmeat but I didn’t know how long it would be good so I threw it out. What a waste!

Here it is:
1 lb lump crabmeat cleaned of shell
16 oz of softened cream cheese
1/2 pint sour cream
4 T mayo
1/4 lemon squeezed
1 T yellow mustard
3 shakes Worchestire sauce
3 shakes of garlic salt
1/2-1 cup shredded cheddar

Preheat oven at 350

Mix all ingredients throughly except cheddar cheese and crab. Add crab after other ingredients is mixed. Toss to incorporate. Place in baking dish and top with cheddar cheese. Bake for 30 minutes or until crabdip is nice and bubbly.

I buy a french baquette and slice it. I butter one side of slices and toast in oven. I use those to scoop the dip up and eat. Notice I do not put Old Bay into my dip. A true crab dip has no Old Bay or similar spice in it. I love Old Bay but cannot tolerate it in my dip or cream of crab soup!
