OK, I've never had crab cakes but LOVE crab, and after a look at the menus, I've found many restaurants offer this dish. I understand it is crab meat (the REAL stuff I hope) mixed with crumbs and herbs, then fried? Now, this is something I would like to try during my trip, if I can eat good ones, otherwise I'll wait for a trip in New England, don't want to ruin a first taste! From the restaurants I'll try, 4 are serving it:

Captain Jack
Kona Cafe
Wolfgang Puck Cafe
Citricos (but I've got my eye on something else here)

Which restaurant serves a good crab cake?

I haven't had the crab cakes at the places you are going to, but I did have the crab cake at Liberty tree Tavern, and Olivia's, and each was fantastic -- *no fillers* just really, really tasty *real* crab meat. I would think that all WDW restaurants would be as good if not better. I love crab cakes, and the ones I had at WDW rival even those we had when vacationing in New England, as well as Maryland. I think regardless of where you have it, you'll be pleased :)

Oh, you'll LOVE crab cakes. They're AMAZING! Think stuffing with chunks of crab. SOOO GOOD. :cloud9:

I would go with either Citricos or Captain Jack. They will have the most "traditional" crab cake. Wolfgang will put a twist on it & I don't feel that Kona will serve quality crab cakes.

No, no, no! Think chunks of crab held together with the smallest amount of bread, egg and seasoning - just enough to hold those chunks together! ;)

I had the crab cakes at Kona and they were wonderful! I would recommend them to just about anyone. ::yes::

Again, not on your list but I had an awesome crab cake at Flying Fish a couple of weeks ago.

I've read good things about Citrcos' crab cakes, too.

I loved the crab cakes at Captn Jacks. They can with this Napa slaw and altogether it was a wonderful combination. I also had them at Kona cafe and enjoyed them but not at much as Captn Jacks.

We had wonderful crab cakes at Kona--I have eaten alot of crab cakes in my life and these were some of the best!

For the love of god, DON'T order crabcakes at Disney. They are not good and they are most definitely not real crabcakes. If you want a real crabcake, come to Maryland. Or, just make your own, they are very easy (which is why I'm not sure why non-maryland restaurants always screw them up!). Here is a simple and yummy recipe (broil them, don't fry them):

TRUST A MARYLANDER ON THIS ONE!!!!!!!!!!!!

Snow is right--the crabcakes at WDW in no way resemble the real thing. If you've never had a crabcake in your life, they might be acceptable. But if you've ever had the Maryland crabcake with Jumbo Lump/backfin, all the crabcakes at WDW will be a disappointment.

My dh loves the crab cakes at Capn Jacks. It is always our first stop the day we arrive.

Ok I'm right over the border of MD and I don't see what all these people are talking about, I loved Kona's crab cakes and thought they were great, I do not like fried crab cakes, you need to go broiled, but I don't see where MD has them any better, actually I just ate crab cakes on the Chesapeake yesterday, they were nothing to write home about :confused3

Coming from the home of the Chesapeake Bay Blue Crab - I think the difference is Old Bay Seasoning. We had crab cakes once at the F&W Festival, and did not like them. Just my opinion, bring your own Old Bay!

Ok now I feel you on the Old Bay, I LOVE Old Bay!!!!

Another Marylander weighing in here .... if you do order crabcakes, get them BROILED!!!!, not fried ... the crab flavor is soooo much better that way ...

Good luck!

Old Bay is a key ingredient, for sure.
But I also think most of the crabcakes at WDW are full of what they call "special" crab meat. Lots of claw, very, very little backfin. Then packed full of binders, seasoned (but NOT with Old bay) then finished off by frying instead of broiling.
If you're ever in the Timonium Md. area, try Michaels. You'll then know what a real crabcake tastes like---.

We had the crab cakes at Flying Fish & enjoyed them very much! It was served sitting on a bed of slaw with 2 types of chil sauce. Here is a pic of the it:

I'm sure it's not Maryland Crab Cakes but it tasted fresh & wasn't too overloaded with breadcrumbs.
