CR Observation Deck

Can anybody go up there or is it restricted for just CR guests? Where is it? Is it open all the time? When is the best time to get there to watch the fireworks? Can you hear the music for the fierworks there? Was planning on having dinner my first night @ WDW at the CR and would like to watch the fireworks right from there. Can anybody help me with this one?

Anyone can go to the observation deck. I would plan to arrive at the CR at least 20 minutes before the MK Fireworks are scheduled to begin. It will take you at least that long to get from the lobby to the deck sometimes. The crowds are flocking to do the same thing you are planning and sometimes the elevaators are very slow.

Yes, anyone can go. Here's a hint that helped up. At the far end of the observation area are stairs that lead down to the hotel levels below. There is a landing that faces the fireworks that will give you a good view with few or no other people around. My kids were too short to see over all the other people on the observation deck, and moving down the stairs gave us a private, unobstructed view. The deck has 2 parallel sides - this was on the side farther from the fireworks. I'm not sure it the stair landings on the near side also face the fireworks.
