CR North Wing Demolition

I would like to see more pic's as they are obtained if anyone gets any-just to keep up with the progress.:thumbsup2

I 2nd that motion. Saw some pics from 1/31 and then I think a couple more from last week, keep 'em coming.

Wow, I didn't realize that we stayed there right before it closed. We were there in late September during the Disney Triathlon and stayed in the North wing on our very first stay at the CR. DW will be happy to know that this is why the place looked "so old and run down" and that we HOPEFULLY will be able to stay there on points in the near future.

Very interesting. .......

If they rebuild I hope it is different from the horseshoe shaped high rise that was circulating for a while as a DVC rumor. I just don't see how you put that with an A-frame and get a consistent theme. And with all the money they sank into the A-frame renovation I suspect it is going to be there for some time.

Perhaps the reason a C shaped building drawing was submitted ( and /or chosen--not sure which) has to do with the original foundation footprint of the North Wing.

My DH is a builder in Michigan. Due to environmental concerns new homes have to be set back further from the lakes than they used to find.

To get around this -----people will buy an old cottage or home that was build 40 or 50 years and tear down the old place save 1 wall and then build the new house keeping that wall as part of the structure. Then they are able to use the "grandfather clause" and call it a remodel.

I thought at first this may what Disney was going to do and they still might.

After glancing at the demolition permits for the North Wing I really don't think they need to save an original wall.

However, in order to build a new structure that close to the water the new structure may need to follow the foundation footprint of the old North Wing.

As I have said in the past we just need to watch and wait.

Time will tell.

It does not have the entire footprint - it is smaller and taller as compared to the old north wing.

or that is how I am seeing it -

the old north wing part of it was between the tower and lake. None of the new building will be in the region. that was one reason while it was only 2 floors - the rooms at the tower start on the 5th floor. so no view was blocked.

besides I like the model - as someone pointed out - it gives more MK view than just a straight angle building could do.

don't DVC member want more MK views.... I sure do!

I agree that the plans for the new tower we saw would not match the footprint of the old North Wing.
I should have clarified by saying that I think the new building will not be able to extend closer to the water than the North Wing's foundation currently does.

Does That make sense?

If a new tower is going up a new foundation will be needed to support it.

I am sure the pilings will need to go quite a bit deeper to support 10 or 15 or 16 floors.

I also like the looks the C tower we saw posted here.

Yes, I would like lots of MK views

We can only watch and wait and speculate until we see what is being build or Disney makes an announcement and shows us the plans.

Thank you so much for the pics and update, what a sight!!

This is seriously killing me though..before AKV was announced I was excited, then disappointed, then excited...you get the picture:lmao:

Here is my completely random explanation that makes me feel warm n fuzzy.

I think the demand for CRV will be enormous (regardless of those on the DIS who hate the idea) to current DVC'ers and new members. I think CRV would sell out very quickly...SO..to put a damper on the massive response of CRV..why not build AKV FIRST so that prospective members might think twice before buying CRV so quickly. Thus, having options for those who feel very strongly on both sides of this issue (those who love AKV & hate CRV and vice versa). Options, options, options.

I also agree with the PP who surmised what Disney top brass have said all along, no more new parks, no new resorts..but lots of focus on DVC. All adds up to this..THELIONQUEEN having 2 200 point contracts @ CRV:lmao:

"We must always believe in our wishes, for they are the magic in the world..now, let's all put our hearts together and make a wish come true"

Like I said, it works for me:rotfl2:
