CR- Does anyone prefer the WINGS over the Tower?

I would love to stay at the Contemporary on our next trip, but not sure if we would like the tower. I know that the views are wonderful, but it seems stuffier than the wings. Is it easier to come and go from the wing sections? How about when you are in wet swimsuits? It seems like it would be strange to be in the elevator like that.

I'm not sure if I'm wording this question right. I always thought I would love to stay in the tower, but after visiting there, I'm not sure. The wings seem more relaxed to me- maybe because it seems closer to the outside? Any thoughts?

Also, the Food and Fun Center seemed small and kind of messy when we visited. Is there a place in there to get refillable mugs? Is the food okay? I really liked the food court at ASMo- it fit our family's needs to grab a quick drink or snack anytime.

Is the atmosphere really different or have I just been over-analyzing and spending too much time on the Resorts board? :rolleyes1

I haven't been to the CR in six years, but when I was there it was much easier to come/go from the pools when we stayed in the wings. It was also much friendlier to my group (a bunch of overly-smart teenagers). The only thing that the tower has over the wings, IIRC, is that you don't get a balcony in the wings.

When staying at the CR, we had alway stayed in the north wing. Once, and only once we stayed in the tower, yes, very good view but I do not like staying over 3 floors, fire truck issue not reaching, for me. My phobia. Plus its a long walk, depending on where your room is, down the interior hall and its always the elevator to get out to where you're going. In the wings, down 2 flights of stairs and I'm on the beach, pool, boat dock or a short walk to the food court. CR is really beautiful at night walking to see the water show and fireworks!

We loved staying in the Wings. It was quiet and we had a beautiful view of Bay Lake and the Electric Light Parade.

We've stayed in the Tower every time we've gone to WDW, but this year we are staying in the Garden sections. So, this topic has been very interesting to me. Good info.
Any recommendations on rooms in the North Wing?

We have stayed in both. I prefer the Garden. You can be minutes from the hustle and bustle of the parks yet feel like you are in a secluded spot. Rooms on Bay Lake are particularly nice. You can sit on the patio in the early morning and quietly enjoy the sunrise.

Tower was fine and the view is great. You just do not seem like you can get away from the parks, though.

We thought the food was pretty good. Ate there 3 times and none of us had anything we didn't like. You get your refillable mug right there where you get your food. You get your refills there or out by the pool at the snack shop. We stayed in the north wing, and it was quite a trek to the lobby and monorail, so we would have liked to stay in the tower. Also, to get from the wings to the main building you had to go outside and back in. It was a covered outside area. My mom has a little trouble walking a lot, so I felt kind of bad she had to walk that far. We were the next to last room farthest away from the tower.

Wings, did someone say WINGS???? Whose buying????

Just kidding... I think it depends.... if you have the money and can ascertain that you will get that fantastic view of the MK, then go for the tower. Otherwise we have found that the wings are much quieter, and the view of Bay Lake is beautiful!

I've said many times on this site that I'll take a wing room facing Bay Lake - like we had last June - than a tower room, or any room, really. The lake was no more than 20 meters from our first floor room. In the morning I'd sit with my coffee watching the boat traffic on Bay Lake; in the evening I'd enjoy a drink listening to the ducks and loons.

It's probably the best deluxe hotel bargain in WDW. But don't tell anyone (shh!)

I prefer the North wing. Closer to the outdoor exits, pool, bus stop and Magic Kingdom walkway.
