Over 10 months ago I reserved and paid for a CR Tower MK View room and we just got here and they checked us into a 3rd floor wing room and said that the tower was sold out.
Not only am I very pi$$ed but the kids are very diasppointed. Last time we had a tower, bay lake view and now all we can see out of our room is a tree. I will have to talk to them in the morning about the extra $300 I paid for the MK view.
I am so upset!

That's just not acceptable. You booked and paid a Tower room, if they can't deliver then they should have AT LEAST offered to move you to the Poly or GF. But what's the use of having a reservation if they don't reserve the room ??

This has been done to death in a couple other threads - hotels overbook. They overbook just like airlines do, hedging their bets that there will be some no shows and everything will be fine. Most of the time it is. But sometimes, guests end up in either a room category that is different than what they booked, or "walked" to a totally different hotel. TYPICALLY when there is an overbooking issue, you are placed a room that is equal or better than the one you booked. But if the resort has already filled all those rooms, then you can end up in a situation like the OP. If there are 20 tower MK view rooms available for check in at the same time as OP and 25 families who have booked them, five families are going to be disappointed.

I would hope that the OP asked at check in how soon they could be moved to the room type they had booked. It could be that they could be moved the next day. If they can't be moved at all, I would expect some sort of compensation to be forthcoming. It would really depend on whether they were paying a deeply discounted rate for the tower room, in my opinion, whether they would receive money back on the wing room. For example, if they booked the MK view tower at 40% off, they would be probably be paying less than the price of a wing room to begin with. That doesn't give you as much leverage to ask for a monetary refund. But if they are paying rack rate (or close to it) for that tower room, then they should definitely be getting some money back on the room.

Wow, I'm impressed with the OP's patience at check in, I wouldn't have been in this type of situation, not getting your requests is one thing but not getting exactly what you paid for is another.

I would be livid! If Disney overbooks a certain room type/view, they are supposed to move you to something similar or upgrade you. Both the Poly and the GF have Magic Kingdom Views. I would ask if either of these resorts are available and if they would move you free of charge. Talk to the manager at the Contemporary about it.

Yes....this is getting ridiculous.

Requests are one thing.....paying for a certain room category is another.

I would not have been happy unless they put me in a concierge room.

totally unacceptable.....I wouldn't have left the front desk until
I spoke with a manager....and my "situation" was handled in a
manner that was acceptable to me.

Yeah, do not accept that! They should be able to move you at some point to the view you booked and paid for. Not only that, you should be compensated for the fact that you have been checked in to a lesser room category. I would go to the manager of the CR and accept nothing less than some sort of MAJOR upgrade and/or compensation for their screw up and failure to take care of you in light of the resort being overbooked. Good luck!!

Thanks everyone for your support.
Gosh I even had a dream aout the room change last night.
When we woke up this morning there was a message that we will be having a room change to the tower.
Yay!!!

That is great to hear!!! Now they should also really give you last night free, or at least give you SOME money back for that night.

That's great news to wake up too. You should at least be compensated for what had taken place yesterday. Enjoy the rest of your trip.

glad it is working out, but you definately had the right to be ticked.

How about asking for a free meal at Chef Mickey's? It shouldn't matter what you paid for your room, only that Disney was unable to provide you with the correct one. I agree, they should compensate you in some way.

I am thrilled for you that you are getting the view you wanted!:yay:

I disagree with this -- if you pay for a higher level room and are downgraded due to overbooking, you should receive a refund for the difference between the two rooms. In the case of a 40% discount, the refund should be the difference between a Tower room minus 40% and a wing room minus 40%.

I'm happy that they're moving you. But IMO you really should still go speak to a manager and get at least the difference for the rooms. Not to mention the inconvience of having to move everything again. Sorry I feel like when I pay for something specific I should be entitled to it. WDW knows how many people really put alot of time and planning into their vacation and they should'nt let you down because they incorrectly over booked. HOpe you have a wonderful rest of your vacation though! :)

I completely agree with all these comments. There is no way I would be happy with staying a night in a room that I did not reserve. There is no excuse for overbooking. They better compensate you more than a free meal at Chef Mickeys.

Hope you have a great rest of your vacation. Enjoy the fireworks from your room. I know I did!! :santa:

I'm not saying they wouldn't, and they very well might, but it puts you in a less advantageous bargaining position if you're already paying less than they can get from a walk in for the same room. Seeing that the OP is being moved to the correct room type, they probably could tell that they would be able to make the move and didn't want to offer Poly or GF and then have them move back to CR the next day. Of course, it would have been nicer if they would have mentioned that, or made an offer anyway and let the guest choose. It's really tough during a holiday week because there are only a finite number of rooms and once they are full, they are full. I remember some threads a few months ago where people were "walked" to AKL and upset because they weren't offered any monetary compensation because Disney considered it a deluxe/deluxe move. But we all know AKL costs less than most of the other deluxe resorts. Then there were also some threads where people were "walked" from AKL to other deluxe resorts due to the pending construction, and they went to a more expensive room and received credit as well. I would imagine most of these cases are handled individually and it's up to us, as the guest, to politely and firmly stand up for ourselves.

If I were the OP, I would be asking for some sort of compensation, both for the downgrade on the first night, and the inconvenience of moving. I would just be surprised if it's money.

There'd better be some compensation for the 1 night you stayed. You were provided a room which you did not pay for or request. Please let us know if and how they compensate you for others to learn.:teacher:

I am so sorry that happened to you and I can say that is 100% not acceptable. Personally what my family and I would have done is demanded to have the Magic Kingdom view room since that is what was said on the confirmation and would not accept anything else. We also would have wanted to see the manager and let them know about that. At least they finally did the right thing and moved you to the Tower, still you should speak with the manager about what happened.

Also here is a story of something I witnessed which is like the thing you went threw. This past August around 11:00 PM while my Dad and I were in the lobby waiting in line to ask them something about our room bill, there was someone checking in claimimg he had a Magic Kingdom view room booked and they told him no it was for a Garden room, but the next morning he could move to the Tower. Well he kept saying no I want the Tower room and after a few minutes of them saying no Tower rooms are available, all of the sudden the Cast Member says they got him a room in the Tower over looking the Magic Kingdom.

Yeah, CHEF MICKEY's, CHEF MICKEY's, CHEF MICKEY's!! Can you tell I like Chef Mickey's? Glad to hear they're moving you, but compensation is definitely called for in this case.
