I go on these board everyday and read what people have written. Does no one stay at CR, or is it just the ones that do don't belong to the Dis? We are booked there for Sept. and now I am wondering what is wrong with it. We have a 2 and 4 year old, so want the monarail. All of are main ADR's are at the Contemporary. I know there is some construction going on, but I can't see that interferring to much. So if you have been to CR lately please post soome good reveiws, or bad I guess. I want to know. Thanks

Hi. We were just there for 3 nights two weeks ago. When we switched over to the Beach Club for the last 4 nights of our trip, all we wanted to do was go back to the Contemporary. The construction was not an issue at all. I can see when the food court area is closed how that might be a bit of a nuisance, but overall there was no issue with it during our stay. The north garden wing is completed gone, there was some construction noise during the day from our Bay Lake balcony (we scored a free upgrade a check-in, not sure how, but truly thankful).

The rooms were awesome! Beds so comfy, with sheets so soft, and so many pillows I could have laid in them all day. The only issue with the room was the annoying bathroom sinks which have very flat bowls and therefore don't drain well. Also, there was not much counter space at all. Those things wouldn't influence my decision to stay there however. We had the nicest server, Lori at breakfast one morning at Concourse Steakhouse. Having the monorail to catch right in the hotel was fantastic. The kids loved the pool (our girls are 5 and 3). The slide was fun and good for their ages. We liked watching Wishes from the marina at night, and watching the electric water pageant from our balcony as well. I would stay there again in a heartbeat. We LOVED it! For comparison, we have stayed at WL 2x, POR 2x, CBR, BC and now CR. CR is probably my absolute favorite just due to the convenience factor of it's location. We also took advantage of the monorail for many meals over at the Poly. We hope to be able to try that next time, only because we like to change things up each time we go.

Looking at my user name you can tell I am a huge fan of the Contemporary, so I have nothing but good things to say about it. The renovated rooms look simply amaizing and if you have booked a Magic Kingdom view room, your going to love it. Chef Mickey's and the Concourse Steakhouse are two amaizing restaurants which I have been to a few times. The only one I have not been to is the California Grill, however others say it's a great place to eat. Other great things about the Contemporary is obviously having the Monorail right there and they are the only Resort to have a walkway to the Magic Kingdom, which can be faster then taking the Monorail there.

Even though you know that there will be some renovations going on while your there, incase you have not seen the schedule of how things are going down here it is.

August 2007 - Newly renovated Fantasia Shop will re-open.

June 11, 2007 through November 2007 - The Lobby will undergo partitioned refurbishments to update the area's image and decor.

July 2007 through October 2007 - The resort's grounds will undergo partitioned refurbishments to install new landscaping and re-route existing guests paths.

July 30, 2007 through April 2008 - The Food & Fun Center will be closed for major renovations. The location will re-open as a new table service option, "The Wave". During this time a temporary counter service location will be operating on the Grand Concourse level near the Outer Rim Lounge.

April 2008 through August 14, 2008 -The Concourse Steak house will be closed for major renovations. The location will re-open as the new Counter Service location for the resort. During this time a temporary counter service location will be operating on the Grand Concourse level near the Outer Rim Lounge.

We have stayed at CR. It was before they updated the rooms. We loved it for the monarail. We have eaten at Concourse steakhouse and California Grill. Both were excellent. My son and daughter-in-law are goiing to CG for their aniversary dinner. I have ordered them a cake with the chocolate castle on top. I have not tried Chef Mickey's, but we are also going there for my grandsons BD's. I was concerned because I am the disney nut in the family and I have made all the reservations and ADR's for this trip, but my son is paying for it, so I don't want them to be disappointed. We are staying in a room with an MK view. I requested the highest room possible. I am sure everything will be great. Now I have another question. Has eanyone sent a package to CR before their trip? I have gift baskets made and want to send them down before we go, so that they are there when we arrive. How much before we leave should I send them. I plan on sending them UPS.

We stayed at the CR last Sept in the Tower MK view room. WE LOVED IT!!!!!!!!!!!!! One of my DS' is a HUGE monorail fan, so it was perfect. We are going back in Sept and our resort is the CR with the Tower MK View room again. We are so excited to return, construction or not.

Thanks for those dates! I too will be staying at the CR in 2008, and was wondering about the construction.

I honestly don't see what the big deal is about the construction :confused3 , maybe it's because I haven't stayed at the CR before and my dream overshadows my judgement :rotfl2:

We stayed at CR for spring break and loved it. Check out my trip report with some pics.

Your welcome and I agree with you when I also think that the construction around August when I will be there is not a big deal. I guess it's because my family and I will be on the Atrium Club, so we will have access to the continental breakfast, afternoon snacks and the 5:00 PM Hors D'Ouvres. Plus if we are hungry for something hot from a counter service location, (assuming the temporary one by the Outer Rim does not serve hot food) we don't mind taking the Monorail to the Polynesian or Grand Floridian. As for the construction in the lobby I say who cares, because how long does anyone spend in the lobby of where they are staying while in Walt Disney World?

I am thrilled to read the positive reviews. :goodvibes
We are staying at CR 8/18 - 8/27 for the first time. Up until a month ago we were staying at POP again (which I do adore), but I got what I thought was a great price at CR for just $800 more for the entire stay. DH has always wanted to stay there. Most of our time will be spent at MK and EPCOT so that $800 is worth that convenience alone.
I am not worried about the construction either as we also will not have any problem hopping the monorail to Poly or GF for a CS meal.
DS might be bummed though without the arcade, but we could always just go to Poly or GF for that too!

Is your DS going to be bummed that the arcade is not on the 1st floor anymore, because they re-opened it on the 4th floor. I have not seen it yet, however I know someone who has seen it and says there is nothing wrong with it.

Stayed there for a convention, it was great.

I'm biased because I love the CR, but we just stayed there 2 weeks ago and had an awesome trip / stay. It was awesome to walk to the MK when we wanted. We have a dd3 (who was one week shy of 3 at the time) and having the monorail there was key.

In the morning, we walked to the MK a few times b/c it was so close. Coming home in the early afternoon, we took the monorail b/c we were tired / hot.

September is a great time to go. We went the weekend after Labor Day about 4 years ago and that was perfect - absolutely no crowds.

Well this is where I'm confused. It's already reopened on the 4th floor, but then I see this in the construction schedule?? Because it's already opened up on the 4th floor and July 30th hasnt happened yet I'm reading this to mean that the Food and Fun Center will be closed and that only a temp counter service will open during this time... not an arcade. Am I wrong to think that? I guess the July 30th date is throwing me off.

We were just there in May, and enjoyed the new "arcade" located now on the 4th floor. Guess they can't call it the "Food and Fun Center" anymore, because the "Fun" center is located on the other side of the 4th floor away from where the new "Food Center" will be (eventually) located.
I think that's what's confusing.
Hope that answers the question.:thumbsup2

We wanted to stay there but it looks booked for our stay 9/29-10/7. Maybe they're holding rooms for a convention and will release them sometime!? Not sure. Love the look of the rooms, monorail, walk to MK, boat to WL. Pool is just ok but my kids love any pool.

Just as a heads up, we ran into the same problem. I was told 8 months in advance that the place was sold out. I was able to get a room later but my options were limited. I finally got the room I wanted. When we got there, we were bumped to a better floor. That would seem to indicate that they hold rooms and release them later. Maybe not. But you should keep checking every few days and eventually, I bet something pops up.
