My sister is going to be in the college program Spring 2012 and my mom was wondering what she will do as far as medical care while she's there? She has insurance but where will she go for care? She's also not taking a car so how will she get there?

Thanks!

I posted something a long time ago on the parents thread.
  • Never call in sick, it costs a CP 1 point. It's better to go to work sick and get early release than get a point. Dr's notes are meaningless for CPs.
  • Centura Care (check the spelling) will pick you up
  • Centura Care doesn't take a lot of insurance, register there as part of your check-in process (it's not part of the "disney" check-in process) but make it.
  • If your parents will be paying your bill ~ Include a payment method set-up, I was on the phone with the med staff giving my credit card info over the phone while my s was in the room waiting to get a strep test
  • If you are in Chatham or Patterson make sure you always have cold meds with you. Walgreens is near Vista.
  • Many, no, MANY tourists come to WDW sick, they have nonrefundable deposits and plane tickets. You will get sick!!
But you will have the time of your life, my son did!!!

If you are out sick more than one day with a doctor's note, the points can be reduced to just one. But this isn't something CP's can do whenever. I believe it's once a program?

you're right here. never miss more than 10 days of work, sick or requested off or anything. you cant go more than 10 days without working on your program. and you actually dont even need a doctor's note. i missed a couple of days of work because i couldnt speak (I was in a spiel role) and they lumped all mine into just 1 point. i didnt even have a doctor's note and didn't explain it to them or anything. they just did it.

If shes on Disney property she can get a free ambulance ride from Reedy Creek. Even if its not serious at all. During my lifeguard training they always told us not to hesitate to call an ambulance because the guest doesn't have to pay a cent until they walk through the hospital doors.

They wont come get you at your housing because its off property. Dr. P. Phillips hospital is like 10 minutes from the apartments. Really nice place, with a great staff. Lets just hope she'll never have to visit though.

The extra cash for a taxi is usually worth it to go somewhere that accepts insurance. In the end its cheaper than what you'd spend at centra care or similar places. Look up doctors offices in Winter Garden or Kissimmi, they're closest.
The point system exists for a reason, if you're truly sick, call in. You cant count on being ER'd and you're exposing all you co-workers to whatever is making you sick in the meantime.

If you get sick at work they will send you home, not the same as an ER. I had to leave the other the day because I felt sick and all I had to do was ask. It goes on your record card as "relieved of shift" and it doesn't give you a point.

Shift releases aren't an attendence point but they're still a record card notation which still affects your transfer status the same as a point. There's a difference in getting sick at work and coming to work sick. As long as you aren't abusing the system calling in sick on the rare occasion that you're too sick to work is not going to have a negative impact on you.
