CP Question

For a friend of mine who would like to try the CP. He's currently enrolled in an accredited college. But this school has transitional classes. Since he got his GED and didn't take the SAT he is currently taking classes that do not count as credit hour classes to work his way up to college level courses. (School is kind of forcing him) So he asked me if he could still do the program since it says that you have to be enrolled in a school and taking classes. Here it is word for word:

"Students must be currently enrolled and taking classes in an accredited college or university in the United States and have completed at least one semester."

So does anyone see why he wouldn't be eligible? I told him to just apply and try but he asked me to "ask around" and see if I could find out some info for him. This guys been through a lot and is really trying to turn his life around. I would love to help him in anyways possible.

So I recently checked the FAQs section on their website and this is what I pulled up:

"In order to be eligible to apply for the Disney College Program, applicants must have graduated high school or completed a GED prior to submitting an application. Applicants must also complete a full semester of college prior to participating in our program (note that individual colleges may have additional requirements for participation). Students who have not yet graduated from high school but have dual enrollment with a college are not eligible to apply for the Disney College Program until they have graduated high school and subsequently completed a full semester of college enrollment. Please note that dual enrollment students who graduate high school in the near future may be eligible to apply for the Disney CareerStart Program."

Since your friend already completed his GED, he should be in the clear. I would assume that he is taking remedial classes? If he is, he should definitely check with his advisor to make sure that they count for semester hours in his college (although they don't count for college credit). My school does that. As long as they count for semester hours, he should be fine. In addition, he should definitely call the disney recruiting office (1-800-722-2930) to explain his situation, that way he can get the official yay or nay or the application process. Thank you for all of your help. The classes do count for semester hours at our school but can't be counted if they are transfered to another. So like if you need 30 hours to transfer you have to have 30 additional hours. But if you get an associates from our school (we go to a CC) you can use the classes in your semester hours to graduate. So I'll tell him to call tomorrow and see what they say thanks again! From the looks of it though it looks like Disney is just looking for people enrolled in the schools regardless of what classes you're in.

You are definitely welcome!! From what it sounds like should be in the clear. Just one more side note. They will call his school to make sure that he is eligible to participate. So also have him speak to his advisor to make sure that they will approve him to be eligible for the program. It is possible to be accepted for the program, and then have the school declare you ineligible because of their policies. I hope that everything turns out well for him!
