CP Housing Questions...

I have been offered a CP position for the Fall Advantage 2012. I am wondering how many non-trad students (over the age of 30) stay in the CP housing provided by Disney? I live approximately an hour and a half north of Orlando. My initial plan was to commute every day. However, my husband and I have been talking and we feel it would be better for me to take Disney's offer of an apartment.

I would hope to only have one roommate. Is that possible? I will only be there when I have to work. I will be at home with my family on days off. I am not looking to be anyone's mother - I have two kids of my own, the oldest leaving for college in August. I am there to work and have a good time, meet some new friends, but definitely won't be there to party. Been there, done that.

Is this even possible? To have just one roommate? Would those of you see it as "creepy" (as mentioned in a different thread of someone who is in her 50's)? If so, why??? :confused3 I have been back to school since 2009. I met some of my very closest friends since being back in college.

My husband and I have also tossed around the idea of moving closer to Orlando. However, we really like the area we are in and will hopefully have our daughter enrolled in a very good school this coming fall. It will only be 7 months and I don't see the point in us uprooting our lives for 7 months - especially since we just moved from Pennsylvania to Florida this past December. However, this is an opportunity that I really want to take advantage of. I am really hoping to make this work.

Thanks!

It is possible to have 1 roomate. However, there aren't that many 1-bedroom apartments (and many are used by married couples doing the CP).

If you do decide to live in CP housing I would recommend finding a roommate ahead of time. There are several 30+ people who do the CP, and maybe that would make you feel more comfortable. You might have more in common then say with a 19 or 21 year old.

Thank you! Any idea where I could look for a roommate?

On this website would be a good place! Possibly the facebook pages. We don't have the option to select roommates yet anyway, so I'd be patient and just wait and see. Hopefully you can find someone you'll click with!

Thank you, again! ;) You have been very helpful!

Actually this part isn't true; roommate matching opened for some dates last week. I already matched with my roommate and we move in August 20th.

Make sure you get there verrrry early on check in day if you're hoping for a one bedroom apartment. And yes, you can find and choose a roommate early.

As for your other concerns though, most of the time they put the "older" students together in housing anyway. They plan it that way if you don't.

And as long as you're not the super weird or controlling I wouldn't think you'd be too hard to live with. :) I don't see it as creepy at all, actually. In fact, with roommate drama I've seen in CP housing, some CPs may rather stay with a mature adult than some of the other crazy kids they get placed with.

And they do give you the option to move out of the first apartment they put you in if it gets too terrible. It's a $50 fee, but you can switch if things are just going terribly, so that's a last resort. I hope it doesn't come to that, though.

Like the others, I'd recommend finding yourself a roommate now. And arrive early on check in day so that you can secure the apartment you really want. Good luck and pixie dust! :)

Thank you SO much!! You have no idea how much better that has made me feel. I keep seeing threads from typical college age people - obviously - and was beginning to wonder if I had made a mistake. I'm glad to hear there are other non-trads out there!! ;)

Thank you, again!

This person is older than you, but I found her on the September 5th arrival date looking for roommates! May not be the right fit, but at least I thought I'd show you some non-traditional students out there planning on living in housing!
