What are things you've done in Cozumel???? I'm trying to decide what Beaches are the best and if anybody has done Ruin trips, shopping, restuarant suggestions....any feed back would be helpful...

We visited Chankanaab when we were there in October and it is a very pretty place. They have great snorkeling and the dolphin encounter and also a sea lion show. If you are wanting a walk-in beach this isn't the place, but it is very nice. Cute little huts for shade and a place to eat and renting snorkel gear is very cheap. There is tons of shopping just off the pier and down the main drag. You can't miss it. Just start walking and you will find just about anything you want. We ate at Carlos and Charlies and the food was very good. I wouldn't take kids there as it is a very wild bar atmosphere. Also, Panchos Back Yard has gotten rave reviews. Hope this helps.

We did the ruins at Tulum a few years back (in February) when we were there on another cruiseline. It was pretty interesting to see, however, we had our 6 month old ds with us and it was EXTREMELY hot (over 105 degrees) and there's NO shade anywhere there. It was miserable for us because we had no water or cool shelter for our ds. I haven't been there since then, but I've heard that it's always very hot there. Had we known that, we wouldn't have gone. If you're interested in that kind of history, it is a good place to see, but make sure you bring plenty of water (from the ship), hats, etc. I would strongly advise not bringing kids there, though.

We went to Play Sol on our own. When you get off the ship there are plenty of cabs waiting outside. I don't remember what the fare was but it was not that expensive. THe beach was nice(touristy) and there were other things to do there Water trampoline petting zoo, open air shops. I know Disney has an excursion there also but I was afraid it would be too long for our ds(5.5 hours including transportation.)

We went to tons of stores, DS got two hand made masks for his collection and I got a beautiful ring from Diamonds International. Yup thats all we did shop shop shop :)

We ate at Pancho's Backyard...the food is super! DW had fajitas and I had a chimichanga. However, we started off with salsa and chips, which i ate but DW passed on since it was a little too spicy for her...2 days later I came down with symptoms consistent with montezumas Revenge - A friend of mine who knows about these things told me it is almost as easy to get sick from raw veggies as H2O.

My advice, check out Pancho's but skip the salsa and guacamole!!!

We did the Fury Catamaran excursion through Disney and it was AWESOME. It included snorkeling for about 45 minutes and then heading to a beach where there were water sports and other activities. Very fun excursion, the crew was great, and it was really reasonably priced as excursions go! :)

We are going on Disney Magic January 18th, and will be doing the Cozumel Beach Break excursion through Disney. It's surpose to be an open bar, water toys, recreation, entertainment and games. Can anyone elaborate on that? Does open bar really mean free mixed drinks? Also included is a restaurant buffet. Motorized water sport are available for an additional fee. Anyone tried those? Please let me know if anyone has done this and what to expect. The cost is $49 per adult, which sounds good for a buffet and domestic mixed drinks, beer, soda and juice.:D

HI All!!!
We did the Halloween cruise this year and had a great time. While in Cozumel we, DH and I went to Mr. Sanchos, www.mrsanchos.com it was wonderful, very relaxing not a large beach, just right, good snorkling. Oh yeah, no charge to enter and the beer was ice cold and cheap, the food was good too. It cost us $15. to get there and we shared a van-cab going back to the ship so it was cheaper, I think only $10. per family.

My DS9 and I thoroughly enjoyed a non-Disney ATV ride along the coastal sections of Cozumel. The adventure also included snorkeling, kayaking and an interesting all-be-it brief narrative concerning the Mayan culture at a local temple ruin. The sponsoring company is Wild Tours. They are terrific!

We did the Cozumel Beach Break excursion through Disney (Playa Sol) and it was probably the best part of our trip! You can do a little Mexican shopping because there are some stores there (that you have to pass through to get to the beach area). There is a very little zoo for some of the kiddies. There is a food buffet and all drinks & food was included in the excursion. But the best part was the water!! I've never been in such warm ocean water (not too tough to beat the Maine oceans ;) ) It was heavenly!! The water was also very calm. We borrowed some floats (at no charge) and lounged around in the water. Our DS went snorkeling and they also had larger water toys (a trampolene & inflatable mountain to climb) out deeper in the water. I highly recommed it! If you'd like more info, please feel free to PM me. http://www.playasol.com.mx/index.htm

Disneysoon, I just read your post. Yes, it does include mixed drinks. Since I didn't have any, I can't comment on how strong or good they were.

We didn't do the jet skiis, but did see some people whizzing around on them (way out deep --completely away from the swimming area)

If I can answer any other questions please feel free to PM me.

Has anyone done Playa Sol on their own and not part of a Disney excursion? We are doing the Atlantis submarine excursion and then I'd like to go to this beach. It looks like a lot of fun. Is it an easy taxi ride from the boat?

several times and have done just about everything. Well all the good stuff anyway! My girls love to swim but prefer pools. So when we were there in May we went to Playa Sol and really enjoyed ourselves. The beach was okay but the pool was great. There is a bench made into the pool right under the canopy of the bar (how convenient!) And the food is not too bad either~

We are trying something different this time. I have heard so many good things about Sally's minigolf on Cruisecritic. The girls are really excited ~ especially about the walkie-talkie's. They plan on ordering alot of shirley temples

we did Cozumel mini golf after we finally found my ring. I fourgot all about that. It was really cool, real banana trees and lizards etc. Don't take a cab though we really got ripped off on that!

Is the water comfortable in January? Also, is the ship really docked near Carlos and Charlies?:D

The ship dock very close to Carlos and Charlies......just get off the ship, walk down the pier and cross the street.....Carlos and Charlies is right there!!

Thanks everybody for your wonderful suggestions.... I'm doing a non disney cruise in a few days and I didn't know where to begin.....

Be aware that there are three different piers for cruise ships at Cozumel. Disney gets to dock at the best one (location-wise). Since you're sailing on another cruise line, you may be docking at one of the other piers that's a little further from downtown.
