Question for anyone that has done the dolphin encounter. Since my kids are 5 and 7 I m finding they are too young for the actual swim. Does anyone know if the other companies beside Disney offer the encounter rather than the swim that you would recommend? Or if we book thru Disney for the encounter, do we have time to visit a beach after? Ok so which beach is the best in Cozumel? Is the Chaknaab one nice or do we take a taxi somewhere else, thx.

Disney uses the services of Dolphin Discovery in Chankanaab Park in Cozumel. Yes, you can book directly. In fact it's cheaper to go direct. You grab a cab from the pier for 10.00 and pay entry to the park, 10.00 per person. You can do the royal swim only when booking directly if you book through DCL you can only book the Dolphin Encounter. Here's their website. www.dolphindiscovery.com

I'd contact them directly. You might be able to get your older child in for the swim. They might have different age requirements. The Dolphin program only last about 1 hour. Chankanaab Park has a great beach to relax at. They have lockers, bathrooms and outside showers. They offer a quiet cove for children to wade in and a snorkling area as well as a beachside restaurant and bar. There is also a place to have hair braided and other activities to see, like a sea lion program. You could spend the whole day there and have a great time. I wouldn't book through DCL for this trip. There are hundreds of cabs outside the pier and many waiting at Chankanaab Park for your ride back, and since the boat stays there pretty late you don't have to worry about rushing back or missing the boat...Mark

I believe you have to be 8 to do the swim.

We booked through dcl. We had plenty of time to wander around the park, swim and snorkel. You get to decide on the time to come back.

You should talk to your kids and explain that they will be standing on a platform in water. The dolphin moves along in front of you with the trainer and you have opportunities to touch it. You may have to hold them, depending on how tall they are, or if they get scared. When we did ours, some of the younger kids--4's and 5's--didn't want to get in; others did fine. You know how your kids will react to this, but prepare them in advance.

Even if you don't do the encounter, it is a nice beach to spend the day at and the cabs are easy to get.

Ok I guess we will call them. I know they wont be scared but I think that with them being pretty small for their age 5, 7 maybe the encounter would be better. I was told that the beach there wasnt that great, but sounds like you guys like it. What else is there to do there in cozumel, I like beachy things, is there somewhere else that is not to be missed?:sunny:

I hear Paradise Beach is just gorgeous, free and has amenities to get changed, food/drink and water toys. Look further into it.
