Which excursions has anyone done in Cozumel? Please tell me about it. Also, what time do you have to get off of the boat if you are doing an excursion?

We did the ruins, chocolate tour, and beach break tour this last Oct. We were off around half an hour after we docked. The ruins were interesting (it was our first time to any ruins), but the kids were done by the time we finished. The drive around the island was nice.....but the kids spent it asking when we were going to the beach. The kids and I did not enjoy the chocolate tour. DH did, but he is into stuff like that. The beach time was very short. We had enough time to change, order food, swim out to the inflatables, play on them for about 20 mins, swim back, eat, and get back on the bus. If we go back, we will just do the beach on our own so we can spend more time there. Play Mia was the beach place we went to, and it was very nice with good food (sad but that is one meal the kids still talk about out of all we had on the cruise).

See below
(I just did the Dolphin Trainer for a Day at Dolphinaris last week. We had classroom time, swam with the dolphins, went snorkeling, did training with dolphins, and had lunch. It was really fun, and I would do it again if I could. I don't remember what time I got off the ship, but the meet up time was around 9:20 in the D-Lounge.)

We did the one you see above that I just copied from a lower post that included lunch and interactions, my parents did the Jeep drive that included ruins, shopping, bar and maybe a church. They left 5 min before us(their jeep broke down a few times, thankfully dad is good with a motor so he was able to get it to chug along with some tinkering to the final destination where a second Jeep was waiting to bring him back.)
Any questions about those?

would you return to play Mia

would you return to play Mia

Yes as it was nice with good food. I don't know how the all inclusive side food is, but the pay as you go was good.

Having said all that, when we were looking at Western Caribbean cruises again, we were going to go to Mr. Sanchos. It looks like the inflatables are closer to the shore (Playa Mia was a decent swim out there), and we wanted to try something different too.

If you like to snorkel, the three reef boat snorkel trip is fun.

Back in 2014 I did the Mexican Cuisine Workshop and Tasting and had a blast with that. It ended up being a rather focused session as there were only 5 of us on the exursion. IIRC the drinks were included in the price and after the class you had some time to enjoy the beach at Plya Maya. I'd happily do this one again :)

We did the kaokao chocolate on our own. It was easy, laid back and our kids enjoyed it. We got back onboard with plenty of time to enjoy an empty ship

Thank you for the replies! My husband wants to see ruins. I am looking at the Tulum excursion. Has anyone done that? I am wondering how bad the ferry ride is - seasickness-wise? And, I am hoping that most excursions don't begin before 9:00am - anyone know? Thanks again!!

I have done the Tulum excursion. I don't remember what time we left. It was early and we were gone the entire day. The ferry ride did not bother us but we are not prone to being seasick. We also sat on top, outside.
It was very interesting and I am glad we did it. But I probably would not do it again. It was really hot. The beach was not open the day we were there. It was quite a journey to get there (first the ferry and then a bus). Lunch was provided but it was just a dry sub sandwich.

Playa Mia was awesome! Been there twice. Our group was set to go back like 3 hours before our time - so we stayed and got a cab back. Only cost us $25 with tip. It was worth the extra $25 to stay. I highly recommend it. Beach, fresh water, multiple areas to chill and the kids water bouncy thing.
I recommend it highly.

It is hot. We did the ruins on Cozumel and Playa Mia. The day was a lot of fun and I'd do it again. Did i mention it was hot....really HOT? At the ruins we drank lots of water and could only think of going to the beach. There is a bit of an island tour as you drive from place-to-place. Time at the beach was not long enough, but good to experience the variety.
