That's all we do, mostly. But my husband's mother is still alive (in a senior assisted living place). We've had to take her to various doctor's appointments in the past 6 months (nothing in the last month). They test their residents and staff every 2 weeks. We just found out MIL is positive

Well, they've actually had a pretty good record. It's a large place with independent living through hospice care. They've only had something like 3 or 4 cases since this began, and they're very strict with outside visitors/contact. We're concerned because she's 92, and fractured her neck in September. I'm not sure how this is going to come out.

I asked my daughter-in-law (ER nurse) how things have been at her hospital, large Chicago suburban hospital. She said their daily COVID intakes are around 50 per day now.

I am so very sorry to hear Dan. I am heartbroken to read these updates, especially your conversation on Thursday. But I was also touched that you are a person that he could rest his thoughts and emotions with in these moments. Says a lot about your friendship and about who you are. No. Just, no. Oh god, no.

Hospitals do not operate regularly with a full ICU.

That’s just blatantly false information to the highest.

You should ask an actual intensivist or tour your local ICU/CCU. Not sure whether my brother and friends, who are intensivists (and, likely, on call as I type this) in CA would laugh or get furious by such a statement in the midst of actually full wards. And, no, not everyone there are obese or old as some claim this virus takes hostage of.

Unlike with specialties and the doctor’s office that oversubscribes patients, it is not in the interest of any intensivist or hospital to fully occupy the ICU. Finding the right ICU capacity strain is a constant work in progress.

Glad it's not true in your area. There are beds but they are frequently understaffed. The majority of our beds are NOT COVID.

Our good friend passed away about an hour ago. He had been moved to the hospice area of the hospital as the medical folks said that was basically what they were doing for him the past few days. and they want to free up the ICU's for more COVID's.

And as with so many hundreds of thousands of other people who have died from the COVID over the past almost year now, no family or friends allowed to be there at the end, just medical people. So very sad.
