The Poly consists of a number of individual buildings/longhouses. The outdoor walks joining the separate buildings are not 'covered'--they are beautiful, garden lined pathways (lit by tiki torches at night). However, the entrances to the actual guest rooms are all accessed via indoor/interior hallways within each longhouse.
This is the major reason that I'm not keen on staying at Poly again. We stayed in Tahiti and it was a long walk in the rain from the main building. And since we go in the summer, it rains a lot in the afternoon usually.
It took getting rained on one time for me and the kids to figure out how to go through the longhouses (there are side doors) to get to our longhouse. We got a tiny bit wet but nothing like the true soaking we would have gotten had we not done this.

We did the same.
We left the lobby from the side, jumped over to covered part of rarotonga, then went through Niue and Samoa and got to our room in hawaii.
