Arg website crashed after I posted a ton.. Lets try again

http://www.brandsaver.ca/en_ca/coupons/ This site is not always active but has great coupons when it is

http://www.rightathome.ca/default.aspx?sC=1 *** this one has printable buy 2 save $4 ziplock coupons - Walmart has Ziplock baggies on for $2 this week - that means baggies for just the cost of tax!***

Save.ca has a ton of 'sub-sites' that have a bunch of different coupons. If you order on one you cannot get that coupon again on another, but the different sites have certian coupons that are not available on the other sites

here are just a few

Websaver also has a bunch of subsites - Websaver is not as good regarding sub-sites because you must order a minimum of 6 coupons, if you order a bunch on the first few sites, you'll run out of coupons to order as you go down the list. So I would skip the first link then look through for the best links that say 'portal' and get those first. I would also make sure I was ordering JUST 6 coupons so I could take advantage of as many links as possible. It would also make sence to use ANY coupon to get you up to the 6 minimum even if it were a product you were not going to use. I did not know there were that many portal sites until I started looking it up for you, so I had many coupons already ordered. I dont know how many portals you can take advantage of using the just order 6. If there is way more than you need you can always add the rest to your last order.

I *think* you can also stack coupons in the US, while here we can't. Also stores have their own coupons and other than Superstore, I don't see any other stores around here having any of their own coupons.

Another way to save money is price matching. I do it sometimes, but while talking to someone at the Walmart check out y/day, he told me he saves around $20.00 per week just by price matching.

I've seen that show on TLC. A few of the talk shows have had some of those women on to do tutorials on coupon clipping/shopping. It's crazy....some of them spend many hours per week searching for the coupons....it's nearly a full time job to them. There was one of them that spends over an hour everyday searching through the local trash to find discarded coupons.

One of the main ways that they save money is by shopping at stores that will double and triple the coupons. Some of the stores will also let you stack an in-store coupons with a manufacturer coupon and then they double or triple it.

I agree that the coupons are pretty slim here. When I'm planning a shopping trip to the US I do a little online coupon searching and usually come up with a lot of really good ones. Rarely do I hit the grocery store on a double coupon day but even still I manage to save a lot of money. Plus, I get a ton of items we don't even have. I also always find coupons for clothing stores and other places that I know I will shop at.

My best coupon story happened about 3 years ago. I was in Target and was looking at makeup....the items I buy are about 35% less over there. This woman walked up to me and offered my a bunch of extra coupons that she had for the items I was looking at. I gladly accepted and thanked her. When I paid for the items I got approx $45 worth for $12. The coupons she gave me were out of a magazine so ever since then I carefully check through all my magazines before discarding them.

Check out a website called smartcanucks.ca. Great site for saving money.

You *can* stack coupons at some places, London Drugs & Superstore, for instance, but not to the extent that they can do in the states. And, it depends who is working at the till. Some will allow it, some won't. But, even with stacking, some of these places aren't always the best deals. You need to read the coupons carefully to. If it says only one coupon per transaction, then you can only use one per transaction. You also cannot use a coupon to stack that has the same barcode.

I don't think it will ever be possible to get grocery prices like they do in the states. They also have royalty programs that are far superior than our programs (think Co-op, Costco, Save on Food, Sobeys). Even with those programs, I could never get $200+ off of my groceries at a time. I don't shop enough at those stores to get that sort of deal.

If you watch your flyers carefully, you can price match. I know people who do this, but personally have never done it myself. I used to spend $700 + on groceries a month, but have now gone to about $450 just by watching sales and going on the coupon sites mentioned by Carina.

Also, think about what they save money on. How often do you see coupons for fresh fruit and vegetables? How about lean means? When you watch that show, look at what they are buying. Lots of juices, sugary foods, processed foods, etc. I want to feed my family with healthy, wholesome foods, so I spend the money to do that. I look for whatever fruits and vegetables are on sale for the week, and I buy those. I watch for sales on meats as well. We freeze meat (no more than 3 months), so we stock up on the deals when we can.

Another site to check is frugalshopper.ca
They post where to find coupons and where sales are. I will quite often keep on eye on the isles of the grocery store just to look for coupons.
Another way to obtain coupons is to contact the companies (ie by e-mail) and request them.
Keep an eye out for the cereal boxes with coupons. Some of them have had coupons for money off bananas, berries etc so that helps with fresh food.

There was a woman that was on Oprah...sorry can't remember her name...she was also on several other shows and she teaches frugal shopping. She does use coupons but that is not the basis of her method. Anyway, the top thing that she does, and it applies to Canadians as well, is to create your weekly meals based on what is on sale in the flyers that week. The principle is to only buy what is on sale. It's quite easy and saves a lot of money. When I apply this, 100%, to my shopping I often only spend around $60. On a week that I'm not doing it I will spend around $100.

This is what we've been doing now for the last couple of months. The other things we do is if I don't want to go grocery store, or trying to keep the budget down, is I go through my cupboards, and see what I've got. 99% of the time, I can make a great meal based on what I have by going to websites like allrecipes.com and just inputting my ingredients and it will pop out a recipe for me. I do that about once a week.

The people on the coupon show today bought 9 grocery carts of stuff.
Where do you store it.
I can't remember how many pounds of pasta they bought but it was over 100lbs.
They will never be able to eat all of the food they have bought.

Ha Ha I Pm'ed her about smartcanucks and frugal shopper.

The biggest area for Canadians to save $ with coupons is on toiltries and cleaning products. I get mine (including feminine products) for pennies on the dollar - if not free. I have over a years worth of feminine products stockpiled, I got them all for tax only, as I had coupons with a value the same price the store put them on sale for. (more than one store, more than one time gave me enough to last over a year)

Its true...most of the stuff that I get for pennies, if not just the tax, is cleaning products and feminine products. Sometimes, I get free lotions, and other personal care items. If you belong to certain customer appreciation sites, you may get a box of pasta or cereal for free. However, I have never gotten any fruits or veggies, or lean meats for free. I have gotten cans of tuna for dirt cheap, and I have gotten canned/frozen veggies for pennies, but never anything fresh. I may have gotten a box of frozen meats free from Superstore once (after spending x amount of dollars), but thats about it. Maybe a buy one get one free at Sobeys or Save on Foods, but I still have to pay full price for the first one. Eating healthy costs money, and again, if you look at what these people are buying, its not all healthy food. And what a waste! 100 lb of pasta??? I don't think in my life I've eaten 100lbs of pasta. That is ridiculous! Also, look at their stockpile of ketchup, canned items, cereal, granola bars, etc. It will most likely expire before they will ever use it. Just because you can get it for a good price doesn't mean you should. It just seems like a waste of money!

Plus when you work out just how much time these people work at their job of couponing (and it is a job at that point), she's probably making $3/ hour.

But thats not to say it's not worthwhile doing it on a small scale, or not worth getting what you can free (not 100+ pounds of pasta) Plus feminine products dont go stale...lol

In 2010 I kept track for awhile and I broke $1000 in coupons redeemed, thats nothing to sneeze at. Keeping track was boring though and I stopped doing so at $1000 as I knew then it was 'worthwhile'

I've been doing a whole lot of that lately. I've been off work, without pay, for a total of 4 weeks since December 29th. I've been off the last 12 days so the cupboards are getting bare...which is actually a good thing. I really like get the supplies down every now and then. I'm hoping to be allowed back to work tomorrow. Cross your fingers for me.

I too keep track of my coupons that I save...I just input that into my monthly budget spreadsheet. And its true, feminine products don't go stale...however, it does get silly to stockpile products on more than a small scale. These people on the couponers show are stockpiling 40+ years of toilet paper. I find that products like toilet paper, feminine products, laundry detergent, cleaning products...they are always on sale somewhere and there are always coupons somewhere for them (it you look at the sites provided above). Its drawing a line between having a couple of extra of something and hoarding.
